I'm at a loss for words, did Grove City even show up??? Was it a run rule? How is a team so dominate in regular season and regional's and get beat 10-0???? Judging by the score, Grove City was not prepared.

Perry run ruled grove City in 6 innings and Paige Myers did pitch the whole game. Perry hit her hard up and down the line up.

Not "shocked" that Perry won, .... at all. However, shocked that the spread was that large. Was wondering the same thing as I saw that score.

Sometimes the the score can get away from you when the dream slips away, but I wasn't there, so I don't know.

Anyway, congrats to both teams, and especially to the Champs! I believe they have quite a contingent coming back as well.

Oh, .... and way to keep it in NE Ohio .... ;&

I noticed in the box score that Perry had 3 SB's also. They must have seen something and took advantage of it.

perry played a very aggressive game with no errors. college style base running and very good game fundamentals, catcher was very good, kept the Perry defense on their toes.... .. of course there was the 10th man in the stands, including the 2 guys with the flags..during the rain delay, they entertained everyone with their gymnastics on the hill side "ala" williamsport

Congrats to Perry, I'am just thinking a State Championship Game shouldn't have a score 10-0,run rule.

Exactly! Maybe a 1 or 2 run game, but a run rule is unexpected in the finals. Congratulations to the Perry team.

The score was definitely shocking, but doesn't tell the entire story. I'm sure if the two teams played again, it most likely wouldn't be a blowout. Perry is a very good hitting team-hit well against both Holland Springfield and Grove City. They are a very disciplined team at bat and ran the bases well (double delayed steal and another steal). Grove City hit the ball, but had too many errors and too many missed opportunities. At one point, both teams had 5 hits, but the score was 4-0.

The girls look tired. I'm sure it's tiring to be away from home for 4 days with multiple rain delays and unexpected hotel stays. It's not an excuse, but could help explain the 10-0 score. The first inning looked promising with the first pitch of the game resulting in a triple, but the tide quickly turned when 2 runners got caught in a run down on the same play, with both resulting in an out. To make it to the state finals is something that Grove City should be proud of. I'm sure a lot of teams would have liked to have made it that far. Getting run-ruled is definitely a disappointing way to end a great season, but shouldn't diminish the heart and talent of this team any more than Perry's team should be denigrated for their lack of exposure in the state poll.

I would agree that if these two teams played again I don't think it would be a run rule. I do believe Perry would win by 3+ runs. Perry showed they were a better all around team , defensively, offensively and they ran the bases much better.

The weather here was so weird yesterday and i know i had a terrific headache all day - that kind of thing could make some girls I know play a little flat - especially with the hotel stay - away from home.

Great experience and congrats to all teams!

I think Mr. Smooth made a very good point. Trekking up to Akron takes a toll on the players like crazy, especially with the weather problems. Nice to know the NE teams can play state in their backyard. (May not have changed the outcome, but I think the game would have been closer. Hotelling/travelling had to have an effect on them.) Here's hoping the powers that be move the tournament to a more central location the next time the opportunity arises!!

I was told the Grove City girls had to miss their graduation ceremony because the game had been delayed. I don't know first hand if it was true, but the girls on my DD's team were discussing this at our game yesterday. Some were saying they would rather play ball then walk to get diploma and others said walking was more important. If this was an issue it could have been a reason why they "were not there" and focused to play the game they usually play.

Congrats to both teams to play as well as they did to get to that point!

Excuses, Excuses! If your team is playing for a state championship, you should be able to overcome a hotel stay, rain, or anything else. That is part of being a championship team. Perry was the better team up and down the line up. They had to overcome the rain delay just like GC had to. As for a hotel stay and bus trip, don't these girls play travel ball? They should be used to long trips and hotel stays. Stop making excuses and give credit where credit is due. Perry flat out outplayed Grove City. They represented the tough Federal League, and showed it doesn't matter if you are ranked or not. Polls mean nothing....respect is earned not given. Perry definitely earned some respect!
