What does Courtesy mean to you? Just that! Went to a tournament this past weekend and boy was I annoyed. On Field 1- our team was to play after the game that was in progress. When the first game was over and our parents waited for the previous team and parents to clear out another team that was playing after us hurried to put their chairs and tent up. I had to look at the schedule to make sure that we were playing next. We have a large support group with elderly and small children so we travel with 2 tents for shade.
But because this other team put their tent up in our area next to the dugout we had to put our tents back to front instead of side to side; which meant that some of our parents could not fully see the field. However, we did have parents that put their chairs up with little umbrellas right in front of the other teams tent to this other teams dismay. They told our parents that they couldn't see the field and our parents said something like "Well we can". :yahoo:

Don't get me wrong, I know there are LOTS of teams and parents will class to wait until their turn on the fields but this team didn't. We didn't even play that team during the whole tournament. :cap:

I don't mean to ruffle any feathers but come on people I expect Courtesy and I would show Courtesy back to you. Maybe I'm living in a world of everyone should be perfect and treat each other like the GOLDEN RULE!

Just my 2 cents.

Unfortunately, I think common courtesy is virtually a thing of the past. We have experienced the same thing on several occasions. We even had a lady set up right in front of us, turn around and ask if she was in our way, and then continue setting up her umbrella after we told her she was. And I was the scorekeeper!!

I had the occasion to sit in the bleachers of the opposing team this weekend at the Strasburg Summer Bash (There was shade there). The parents were very supportive of their girls and I really enjoyed talking with them. To the 12U Twister Sisters' parents, "Thanks!"

Should "courtesy" be extended to include parents drinking alcohol during a game to the point they become belligerent to their own players? Saw that this weekend also. It may be acceptable for a Men's Sunday beer league, but not girl's fastpitch.

4carrs......this is something we also had to deal with this weekend. And we have another tournament coming up that I understand beer will be sold during the tournament. Our coaching staff has talked about this....we wish the TD could/would prohibit the sale during the tournament, but we also understand they are making money off of this type of sale. We will address our parents if they start getting out of hand, hopefully this will not happen !! But unfortunately we have to deal with it also.
As far as Courtesy goes.....I think all teams, parents, fans need to be courteous to each other. We have had teams set up like the above mentioned post before also and this is very frustrating for all the parents. I think teams for picking benches should also do this......we saw some grousing over this, this weekend nothing verbal just kids being upset because they wanted a certain dugout.

I hope we were at the same tournament softballdiamondchic if not, this is more wide spread then I would ever imagine. I think it was field 3 or 4 when my parent were standing behind a group that had their tents up and were waiting for the game to end and for them to leave. Well when the game ended, they just sat there. My parents ask if they were the other team we were going to play and they said they were the team after us but wanted a nice spot. My parents had to squeeze in where they could or set down right field fence. Hard to believe:mad:

Just another drawback of the TD not having FULL CONTROL of the tournament operations. I have an occasional cold beer, but at a children's sporting event?? C'mon people! They don't even sell beer at college games - FOR GOOD REASON! This sounds like a great example of profits overriding values, and it also looks like common sense ran out the back door!!

Just for clarification, alcohol was not sold at the Strasburg tournament. The tournament was ran very well and on schedule. Great fresh squeezed lemonade too! Now, if we could just get them to do some fair fries and hot sausage sandwiches.

Also, the local police did patrol the area quite frequently throughout the day.

4carrs- we always had other team players sitting on the bleachers but I'm talking chairs up next to the fence with the tent. I, for one, will watch a game in between ours but I wait to see an open spot on the bleachers and if I know the team playing needs that spot, I move. Just Courtesy!

Absolutely Sammy...same thing goes for leagues on week nights. Wow!

Our team played Friday afternoon in Indiana at 2:00. It was extremely hot and humid as it probably was everwhere else. Our parents set up 2 canopies. When the game was over the next team coming in didn't have any. We asked if they wanted us to leave ours and they were very greatful. Matter of fact we didn't play again that day until 8:00pm. We left the park ate checked into our hotel and came back later to see the canopies in the same place. This is how it should be all over the softball community. As parents we work to hard and put in too much time to have to worry about nonsense over the weekend at tournaments.

Also on a side note, I would like to say what a nice park they have in SHelbyville Indiana. This is one of, if not the nicest parks I've been to. Never seen a full garbage can, the restrooms were well kept. I hear they are going to add 4 more fields just like the ones they already have. ALso played at a community park in shelbyville that was extremely nice.

We had a monsoon go through late friday night (saturday morning) and it didn't stop raining until 6am. Fields were ready to be played on by 11:00 at both parks. If you ever get a chance to play in SHelbyville you will love it.

At our 10u tournament this past weekend, I had the mother of the pitcher for the other team standing right behind my chair. She was so close at one point I thought her hands were resting on the back of my chair. She knew we were from the other team yet when her daughter would stike someone out, she would yell "put that in the books" and anything else she could think of. The girls on the team were great but the parents and coaches were sore winners.

And retaliation solved what????

We were there as well, Tonya always does a great job! USFA in Indiana is the way to go. Shame they couldn't do something with the grounds around field # 2...

That was really thoughtful of you to do that - I know our team would have appreciated it! Class act! I only own a bigger kind of canopy that I bought for another purpose and it's a royal pita to set up and take down.

As far as that pitcher's mom yelling behind you flea909 - - classless.

This isn't solely a softball community problem, simply a reflection of what our society has become in general. We're on that slippery slope that began with doing away with the "pledge of allegiance" then school prayer, etc.....

You can't strip away the identity of the many to serve the few. These simple things that have been done away with are the very things that made us great, kept us united, and the most envied nation on the planet. Freedom and tolerance for people's differences are only words to most folks any more.

Okay, I feel better now.

What retaliation? It was our turn to play, NOT theirs. :cap:

And what did you teach your kid - that if someone is an a-hole to you then it is OK to be an a-hole back? Be the bigger person. Find somewhere else to sit, enjoy the game, and explain to your kid the mature way not the childish way to handle situations.
