Great.. That is so great for the parents or the grandparents that want to listen in to the games and can't be there.

ohioquakerman....it was nice to meet you and good talking to you on Saturday. It was a great weekend for softball and I think it went really well.

One suggestion for the future would be to have two umpires for each game, especially in bracket play. We had a couple of calls go against us and a couple go for us that I think would have been different with a second umpire.

Can you tell me who won the 12U gold and silver brackets?

Thanks to the entire TD staff for a great experience and here's looking forward to next year.

Monday morning has come after a long weekend of watching some great softball at the Rec World Series. The parents and fans and their support of their children.

Overall, the teams had a wonderful time and the girls were excited at being at the event.

I was given the opportunity to be the 8u tournament rep and watching over the needs of the 8u teams.

Wow, what an experience ( enjoyable of course) that was indeed !!!

These 8u teams are absolutely amazing !!! Changed my whole perspective of 8u ball after the first game I saw on Saturday. These girls can play the game !!! The excitement of the fans and the support of their teams is second to none.

8u division, in it's first year of this event, had to be one of the most exciting divisions in the tournament and I want to thank Rick Moorehead for the opportunity I was given to work as the 8u rep for the tournament. The absolutely enjoyment I had with the coaches, parents and players of the 8u event was second to none..ever.

Parents, Granparents, little brothers and sisters dressed in team colored tee-shirts with " Brianna's Mom, Dad , Grandpa, Brother" was all new to me. The sea of "orange" of the Design 1 team and the wave of "pink" for the Jackson County All-Stars at the championship finals was totally amazing to me. The deafening sounds of support from the parents throughout the championship game had my ears ringing for an hour after the game !!!!

Prior to the championship game, the teams and their coaches gathered at the pitcher's circle so I could show the girls the "championship rings" that they were playing for in the final game of their normal season. The reaction by the girls and the way their eyes lit up when they saw the rings ( as I walked around the circle showing each one the ring) will never be forgotten by this writer. Eyes popping out of their socket is the best way I can describe it.

Being a first year event, I told the girls that they are now "sisters" to one another and their hard work all weekend has come down to this game. After the speech, the girls started hugging each other and shaking hands and brought a tear to my eyes to see the innocence of a child and their hearts. I turned to see coaches and parents alike with those same tears.. wiping their eyes from watching the girls hug each other prior to the final "battle".

And what a battle it was..... we played the full seven innings and the final score was 14-13 with the Jackson County All-Stars falling one run short in the bottom of the 7th to a very strong Design 1 team.

The all-out / leaving it on the field play of the girls was totally amazing. It was everything a championship game should have been in every sense of the word.

The hardest part was watching the girls come get their awards at the ceremony. The Jackson County team and the red eyes of the girls streaked dirty little faces who fought so hard and had a never give up attitude throughout the game... was indeed the hardest... But, to bring smiles to their faces when they got their medals was great.

The tears and red eyes of the Design 1 team out of Mt. Vernon exhausted, as well, from a weekend of playing the game.. to see their eyes light up when receiving their rings from Ricky and watching the first awarded girls walking over to shake the hands of the Jackson County girls was too much for me.

It is so refreshing to see 8u girls ... so refreshing... for them to give witness to the softball girls at any age group.... the true meaning of what it is like to be a team. The parents and their total support of their DD's was just amazing.

Ricky, thank you for the grand opportunity to be a part of the inagural 8u event in it's first year at this World Series. A great addition to the tournament this year.

We all could take lessons from these 8u girls and parents to get back to what the game is all about in reality.

And 8u girls showing a 52 year old man, such as myself, the true meaning of "team softball" will never be forgotten.

For the people of this forum and the travel parents that always say here on the OFC that this is a "community" of people.. get the word out to these rec leagues in your communities and tell them about the Rec League World Series for 2011. The people you tell will be appreciative as this is NO DOUBT the event to be at for the rec girls in 2011.

To the tournament directors of Ohio... don't be scared to provide the 8u teams with a venue to play. You'll never be disappointed and the thoughts of how an 8u game might mess with your game times by being a long game.....just throw that thought out of your heads as their games go FASTER than any other age group I know.

Thank you to the teams, the coaches and the parents. It is the most memorable event ever witnessed by this writer in 24 years of running softball tournaments and no doubt I was "educated" this past weekend to what softball is all about.

Thanks again to my 8u teams, coaches and parents. You were GREAT to work with this year !!!

I was busy with the 8u and never heard who won the 12u division as it was at another park and at Gant Stadium. I am sure the results and scores will be put into the OFC very soon. I am sure it is taking a day to recover by all off us.. especially the hardest working TD in Ohio, Rick Moorehead.

Suggestions is always welcomed after the tournament as was told to every coach in that Friday night coaches meeting.. as this is "your" event is the spoken word of TD Rick Moorehead. I am sure he meant every word of it. Make it the best ever next year with your suggestions this year. Adapting to the needs of the teams... I am sure there is an open door policy with Rick Moorehead. When the tournament ended... next year's event started being planned. I guarentee you that.

I know Rick worked hard to plan this event for six years .. now in it's second year.. for the rec girls as we both have always felt there isn't anything out there concerning a serious tournament involving rec girls and just for them.

Tipp, hope to see your WHOLE league of rec teams next year at this event. You tested the waters for them by attending and can go back and let them know by your personal experience what fun the girls had at the event.

It can only get bigger and better year after year for the girls and isn't this what it is ALL about.. the rec girls?

And it was great meeting you as well !!!!

I was physically and emotionally spent after this event. But, it was so fun being a small part of it and given the opportunity to do so.

In 12U.......
Lakewood defeated Ohio Valley Crush of W. Virgina 1-0 in the Gold Divison to win the rings...Wow, it was a heck of a ball game......

Wallen Wildcats of Ft. Wayne defeated the Mason Lady SteamRollers 7-1 to take the Silver divison title.........

It was a great weekend of softball. For all those concerned about my Catcher taking 2 to the throat on Sunday - She got tests at Cincy Children's Hospital last night & all looks to be good!!!

Tough without a catcher going into the silver finals, Steamroller ! Takes the winds out of the sails sometimes. Your girls did wonderful in the event and see them being a force in 2011.

Also, it was great talking with you as well on Sunday before your final game at the stadium. I am so glad to hear your catcher is fine. I wondered how she was after you told me of what happened. Good to know.

I love talking softball...to everyone at the park. It is such a great community of people !!!!

Run and hide if you see the Quakerman coming towards you.. for I'm out to talk softball to someone and find my next victim :lmao:

Dezign 1 of Mt Vernon, Ohio - 2010 ASA Rec League/ Youth League 8u World Series Champions

Has a nice "ring" to it, doesn't it ;)

Now, you have to come back and defend your title. I think your 'sister" teams wants another shot at you...:D

Jackson County All Stars of Wellston, Ohio - 2010 ASA Rec League/Youth League 8u World Series Runner-Up has a wonderful ring to it as well.

That was one amazing game.. as well as the silver division game between the Lancaster Thunder and West Holmes Lady Knights.

Congrats to both teams and West Holmes Lady Knights for being the Silver Division Champions in the 8u Silver Division

The only thing I can say is WOW, one of the best battle on the diamond I have seen in along time.

I was very happy to watch the 8u Teams in both the Gold and Silver Divisions in the Championship Games.

As I said after the game, Ok everyone I was wrong, I have never seen 8u play like this..

As I said, you will get them little one in Gant if we stay in Zanesville for 2011, but I can insure you that were every we have the Rec League & Youth League World Series in 2011 we will be playing in someone Stadium.

Thanks to Tim for hosting the 8 under this week-end you did a stand up Job. And I want to say thanks to the whole Staff for doing a stand up job this pass week-end.

Got to watch some of the 8u games this Sunday. Youngest is 14 so it's been that long. Took me back, the fan base for this age group was amazing and fun to watch. The cheering by the fans and the teams, priceless. Also watched the 10u, good ball games.
Very good tournament, thanks guys.

Tim, Rick and the entire staff, on behalf of Tri-Valley all stars, I would like to give a huge thank you for holding this event. It didn't work out so well for us on Sunday, but the girls had the time of their life. This is my first year coaching any level of softball, i have umpired for 15 years, and the teams at the 8u level had to be the most exciting I have ever seen. The parents, coaches and fans at Y-City were great and it was a pleasure to get to talk to all of you. CONGRATS to Dezign 1, what an awesome team and a great group of girls/coaches/parents.
I had spoken to a coach from Northridge, 10u I think, and he watched our game against Dezign 1 on Saturday. After our game he told me that was the most exciting game he has ever seen. It ended in a 5-5 tie.
I know for a fact that Tri-Valley 8u WILL be back for this event next year. We are going to adapt the same rules as the World Series for our rec league next year.
Again, thank you for giving us the oppurtunity to be apart of this event. It was truly a GREAT tournament and we had a blast. Congrats to all the winners and we will see you all next year.

Rick sure puts on a show for the girls at the World Series, doesn't he? Goes all out to make this event memorable for them and he absolutely succeeded !!!

I will not be able to participate next year in the World Series as a rep... as I took on a postion as Ohio State Director for Global Fastpitch Authority starting this Fall.

www.globalfastpitch.com

I will be concentrating on nothing but 8u, 10u and 12u events for the next two years here in Ohio... with our events for the rec division ( as we will have travel and rec divisions in Global ) placing winners with a free ride to the ASA 2011 Rec League/Youth League World Series as I think that is the most important thing to do for the girls.

Brian, good luck over the winter and I am glad you are prepared to come back to the event in 2011. Please let everyone you know for if your girls had a GREAT time.. then other girls and teams deserve the opportunity to have a great time as well.

It is so hard in Ohio to reach out to the rec people and connect them to this website. Contact people for the rec leagues in Ohio and surrounding states is needed. Send them to Rick at gamex@game-ex.com so he can contact them over the winter so they too can have a memorable experience.

Good luck with this event for years to come, Rick. Once again, thanks for the opportunity to be the 8u rec representative. I had a great time with the teams.

I thought this was funny...

I had a tongue in cheek request for 2011 by a 8u coach...

He asked that the Y-complex not have 8u games ALL going on at the same time on the four (4) fields at one time in 2011.

Said it was so loud from the cheering of the fans at all four fields.. that his girls couldn't hear him on pitcher's mound giving instructions to his girls !!!! :lmao:

Of course, he wasn't serious. It was loud enough if one (1) game was going on in the 8u division.. let alone FOUR !!!! :lmao:

Overall, I thought the event was just OK. I expected a much better experience at this "World Series". $10 per person gate fee, then an ADDITIONAL $5 per person PER DAY at Gant Field was just ridiculous. You were penalized for making the darn finals. $80 in gate fees for a family of four....are you kidding me?

T-Shirts were only available at one field and were grossly overpriced. I know tourneys need to make a profit to pay for umps, awards, etc. but when added with the big entry fee, I felt like we had "****er" written all over us.

Also, keep the softball games on a softball field. No need to play on that huge field, and the girls didn't like it...would have much rather just played at Riverside or Y-City. And the much-hyped web radio broadcast was a flop. I had to field phone calls for the first half hour of the game from friends at home trying to listen wanting to know what they were doing wrong.

I know sometimes rec teams don't understand entry fees, etc.. and think they are high.

When in reality... teams got 6, 7 or 8 games for $400.00 or even less if you paid early and got in the event for $350.00.

Anybody in the travel ball side of softball would say that was a good deal.

Radio broadcast last year was great at the WS in Chillicothe. I have no personal knowledge on that part this year.

Was T-shirt prices $15.00? That's standard around the state to my knowledge. I didn't buy one so I have no idea the price.

Gant charged their own fees as a private corporation owning the fields. Not one dime went to TD and tournament.

softballfanz from the feed back we have in at this time no one has complain about the experience, or about playing in the Stadium. All the girls we talk with and Coaches love playing inside the Stadium. And said it was a blast. The Family members we have talk with said it was neat that the girls had the chance to do something they may never get to do again.

The Family members and Fans, except a few didn't like paying gate fees, but these are the same Family members and Fans that we have experience problems with when it comes to gate fees every time they play in any tournament we host.

I'm not sure why they would return year after year if they have that much of a problem with any tournament we host. If we do that bad of a job, please don't return to are tournaments.

Were all aware that most people would like to save some money, and if they didn't have to pay a gate fee or any other cost they would be more happy about it due to saving some money.

But were also well aware that a very select few and I mean very few make sure they do everything under the sun to hand out as much grief and aim as much hate at the Staff and Gate workers as they can. Funny thing about this, well not really funny unless, its always the same people year after year.

You think I would want to have anyone have to put up with some of the trash and grief that my Gate workers put up with year after year if the gate fee's we're needed to recover our fixed cost of hosting a tournament.

The Stadium fee's of $5 dollars a day didn't even cover the cost of using the stadium.

In fact the cost of putting on this tournament has been in the red since it started. This was my choice to try and do the tournament again in 2010 being well aware that we took a big hit in 2009 and was going to do the same thing in 2010.

Cost of paying age Groups Host, grounds crews, even awards are more for this tournament because we are going that extra mile to make it a good show for the girls.

But I will push ahead and try to make it work once again in 2011.Because it is my choice to make this tournament the Best Rec League Youth League World Series for the girls.

The Broadcasting of Game in 2010 did run into a big problem. In 2009 we didn't have any problem broadcasting. But for some reason we couldn't keep the broadcasting stream running.

For some reason we lost are stream after 5 minutes, and every time we would get are stream up and running, it would shut down.

This was dis-pointing to me as I really wanted these games done just like we did in 2009.

We have talk with Sports Ohio about doing a few select games at the world series and Airing them on Ohio Sports network. Its my long term goal to get to the point that we can have them aired on Ohio Sports Network. But at the same time run the Live Stream of all the World Series Championship games on talkshoe Raido or unless something else better come along go with them.

I guess because my Goals for this tournament are so big, it may be one of them tournament that must fade away or at least my Long Term goals will never happen.

I'm not sure what will happen in 2011, will we be able to improve and make relationships with partners that can help use reach this Goals faster or will the Goals never be reach. Only time will tell.

Another thing I'm not the type of person that try to make hardship or hate or even hand out grief to others. I just try to do my best, to do the best with what I have.

All the Best, to your Girls

In no way did I intend for my post to be a personal attack to the tournament director or any of the organizers. I was just stating my opinion. I did not say it was a BAD tournament. I know it is a lot of hard, thankless work to run a tournament, and all of the work you did IS appreciated.

First off, let me say that am not a cheapskate, and I have no problem paying gate or parking fees or helping out an organization. Nor do I have a problem paying $300-400 for a tournament -we do it all the time - that is normal. My point is that I have been to hundreds of softball and baseball tournaments - travel and rec, and have never had to pay $80 for my family to get in. Ever. Heck, I can go to Pirate games chaper than that. Not that I would go pay to see the Pirates :) I just think it was a pretty steep fee. Grandma and Grandpa will just be staying home next time. My thoughts are that this tournament could be highly successful without the use of the "big stadium" that obviously costs you more to use than you take in.

Yes, it was nice for the girls to get to be on the field in the bigger stadium, but I just think playing games on that field - epecially the championship games, take the actual game away from the girls. If this is truly for "rec" teams, playing on this field turns it into a game of who has the best catcher. One missed ball, one bad pitch, and runners can lap the bases twice. That is not real softball. We came into the stadium and watched the game before ours - it was just ridiculous. Wasn't even fun to watch and the girls that were winning seemed bored out of their mind - in no way did it resemble a softball game. Not that the end result would have been any different, but it might have been more of a game on a small field, where it should be.

Just a thought - If you want the girls to experience the big field, maybe you could do some type of opening ceremony or something like that. I have seen that done before, and it can be awesome.

Also, in regard to the shirts - again, just my opinion. I have no problem with $20 T-Shirts that reference the tournament. I buy them all the time. I just thought the set up at Y-City was a little out of hand. I guess it was probably genius on someones part - there were girls walking out of there with more decals on their hoodies than NASCAR drivers - I'm glad their parents are loaded. $60-$70 hoodies are crazy - didn't even have "Under Armour" on it anywhere - just kidding. I just heard of parents - from all teams- commenting on the prices.

A parent hates to have to tell their kid "no" to anything, but I heard lots of "no's" to girls who's parents didn't have the money to buy a hoodie like "so and so" got. When the girls saw all the options, they didn't WANT a hoodie with only printing on the front - they wanted the NASCAR hoodie and were told no. I think if you offered one design, with printing on the front and a list teams on the back, and could get it on whatever color hoodie or t-shirt they wanted, you would have made a mint. I just think you would have sold more, and had more happy kids, if the prices were a little lower, and if you sold them at Riverside as well.

In closing, let me say thank you to you and your associates for all of your hard work.

Softballfanz, I can understand your frustration with the gate fee you had to pay. We also dealt with this issue when Rick's daughter played softball. But we gladly paid any gate fee to watch her play, just like I did when my sons were in football.

The gate fee was $10 per adult and $5 per Senior Citizen for the white band for the weekend being used at Y-City and Riverside. There was an extra fee at the Stadium to help pay for the use of it. IF anyone lost or forgot their band they were charged again and it was clearly stated plus everyone was telling people to not lose the band or they would be charged again. The reason for this is that teams from previous years were passing the bands off to other parents who had later games.

Many teams who attended the World Series in Chillicothe last year did attend again this year and did not have problems with the fields.
I think maybe you misunderstand the concept Rick is trying to do here. He is trying to make something special for the Rec teams since they don't have anything to look forward to as in championships or winning a ring or having the feel of playing in a Stadium. Many new tournaments when started have many kinks in them and need some things worked out and sometimes that takes years to do.
Some tournaments do get free diamonds or the use of the concessions or have sponsors to help foot the bill. We do not. All the diamonds are rented for the weekend we pay for all lights, umpires, toilets and get nothing for free. The concessions belong to two different organizations and we do not profit from them.

The vendors set up where they would like and all wanted to be around the 8 and 10u age group. We do not control the prices of the sales of any of the vendors or what items they sell. Just like if you went to the store and bought a $60 blouse or $80 purse I don't control that either. This is the money they make to pay their bills not mine.

Our plan was to do opening ceremonies but with teams that had to wait for their organization to get funds ready it was a last minute thing we could not get ready. We had many things planned this year and hopefully next year we can get the kinks worked out and that includes the live broadcast which I know Rick spent several hours trying to get it working.

As my husband stated there are a select few who try to give grief to all and we deal with this organization year after year. Our other tournaments are a success and I'm sure Rick will get this one off the ground and I support him a 1000% because I know what it is he wants for all the girls.

Good luck to the girls

Maggi

We did have tournament shirts the only Cost $15 Dollars and we had other by the concession stands for $12 Dollars all Day Sunday.

We didn't see a single $12 Dollar shirts, no one like them.

I wanted to make sure I also thank all the behind the scene people that help take care of the Diamonds and help the Teams out when needed.
