Too Quiet in the GWOC

Lakota East 2
Northmont 0
8 innings

Congrats to East.

Honestly, I could take this loss a little better if I didn't feel we got slighted on the call at third base. We more than likely would not have gotten a hit to score the runner as Pearson was on a roll, but in the 7th inning in a tie ball game, I would rather see what we can do than have an umpire make a horrible call to end an inning.

The better team won the game, but I think that one call ruined our chances at an upset. Otherwise, it was a great game.

Know the feeling about bad calls at 3rd base but Northmont did the GWOC proud.....congratulations on a good season.......great team great program!

The call at third against Miamisburg and the call at third again East were two very different calls. Add in one was a pretty meaningless regular season game and the other was the District Championship.
I won't even get into a discussion about it to avoid sounding more like sour grapes.

Congrats to East. The better team won the game.

As for Northmont, our goal for the next two years should be to find a way to get over the District finals hump and to play in the regionals or beyond. I know some girls have their work cut out for them. Let's get to work!

And you made the call from where? Your seat in right field? First of all it was bad baserunning by Northmont and let's not forget there were not one, not two, but THREE umpires who could have changed the call when your coach asked for help. Third basemen went to get the ball and tagged her, she never reached base. Nothing incorrect about it. But as you said you would have had to get another hit to get her in anyway and Pearson was on fire besides giving up a hit to Northmont's best hitter.

Is this really necessary? You won.....

I know, I know. But there was a man in right field who harassed our players and coaches and the umpires on the way out for this call. Uncalled for.

I happen to have pictures that show the ball in the 3rd basemen's hands before the Northmont player even began to slide.

OK so you're saying I was the man doing the harassing? You wouldn't know me if I walked up and shook your hand.

I was very verbal for the poor call. So were about 100 other Northmont parents and fans. And yes, my view of the play was much better than the umpire's view, who was behind the play. No way he could have seen the tag.

Post the pictures. That would make me feel much better because I doubt they exist. The girl was safe and your third baseman had the ball in one hand and tagged with the other. You got that on film? Post the pics. I would love to be proven wrong on this one.

I never said "MC Hammers" was harassing anybody.. But one of your fans was doing so. Being verbal is one thing but this was past that. By the way, your Coach wasn't debating the safe or out, she was debating that our 3rd basemen blocked the bag.

As soon as I get home (out and on my phone now), I will upload the pics.

OK, thanks, and they do look like they would support your claim, but the tag did not appear to be there in real time. We have a video and as soon as we can get it I will look closer.

I hope it shows I am wrong. Honestly, I don't want to feel like we were slighted. I have said I felt the better team won the game, as I did last year when Mason beat us in the district finals. Last year we just flat out blew a 2 run lead, and this year, I felt like one call could have made a difference. I will come on here and eat my crow if I see on the video that she was out, but I still don't feel she was. Way too many rational people were upset on our sideline for me to believe otherwise. I no longer have 20/20 vision, but I was right in line with the throw and I do not feel she was out.

Even if she had been safe, there were 2 outs and the bottom of the lineup didn't have much to counter Pearson. There is no doubt that it was a close call but I think the right call was made and from my view she never reached the bag? My biggest thing was why did she go so late on the play? If timed up better there was no play to make and with 2 outs its as easy to score from 3rd on a hit as it is to score from 2nd.

Bottom line, both teams played great. Jess Clutter held a very good hitting to 0 runs team for 7.2 innings.

You are absolutely right about going late on the play. She actually went back towards the bag on the throw to first and then made the break.

Coulda been shoulda been doesn't matter. We lost. Maybe I am reaching for something that isn't really there. Just kind of sad it is all over and this probably doesn't help.

My girls have two more years of HS ball and lots of time to get better. That work starts in a week and will go into the summer and fall.

Jess was incredible and will be missed, as were all four of our seniors. Such good girls too.

Pearson is as good as it gets. You'll go as far as she takes you. Good luck.

These are nice pictures, but they are of the wrong play. This is #6 (AG) and the runner at the time, in the 7th inning was #18 (CR). :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

HAHAHA wrong! I'm not sure what game you were watching but you only had two runners reach base safely. Your 2 hitter Crawford was hit by a pitch and then one of the 3 or 4 hitters (a pfeffer sister I think Libby?) hit a double and was PINCH ran for with #6. Last time I checked, you can't COURTESY run for a shortstop or 3rd basemen. Your pitcher and catcher never reached base so how could a courtesy runner ever have been entered? And there were no other plays at 3rd base besides this one because again you only had two runners all game.

It's funny to me that you can state so defiantly about your "great view" of the play and not realize that those pictures are the exact play you are so sure about? :lmao: You basically caught yourself in a lie there. If the umpire you are talking felt strongly enough that the wrong call was made, she could have had it reversed regardless of the teams changing field positions.

Wrong because you can't courtesy for a girl that wasn't your pitcher and catcher. Two girls reached base all game, one of the 3 or 4 hitters (a pfeffer sister) and your 2 hitters was hit by a pitch in the 1st.

There were no other plays at 3rd base!

Actually there was another player who reached on an error and was subsituted for and pinch-run for, then re-entered into the game. Close!

You're right the error in RF but that inning ended in a strikeout not this play. There was only one play at 3rd base.. Nobody reached 3rd and that is our 3rd baseman so it is the same play you are debating.

Sorry I didn't realize this thread was for the GWOC fans only. My bad. Maybe you should create a secret password to keep other high school softball fans out if that is the case.

Nothing wrong with defending your team and that is all I'm doing. I believe the right call was made but I also believe it is reaching just a bit to think this play would have changed the game. It's in the past now. I'll stop because I've said how I feel. Let's hope for a great game Thursday as well.
