I have seen a list, posted several times, of 10 different things that will cost you a game. ?As an example, one of the items was not sliding. ?I can't find it. ?Can someone please post the list again.

One that I have...

10 MENTAL WAYS TO LOSE
1. ?Outfielders throwing to the wrong base.
2. ?Pitchers not backing up bases.
3. ?Infielders not making sure of the first out on a double play try.
4. ?Hitting the first pitch when the previous batter was walked on 4 straight balls.
5. ?Batter guessing at the plate and taking a called third strike.
6. ?Hitters swinging for a homerun when a normal fly ball will score a runner from third.
7. ?Outfielders not backing up bases on overthrows.
8. ?First and third baseman not guarding the baselines in a close game.
9. ?Catchers not knowing what the batter did on her previous at bat.
10. ?Extra players not ready to perform when called upon.

These are not my personal beliefs, but something I ran across a few years back. Most I agree with, not sure they would be my top 10.

#4 and #5 are interesting. Both are based on statistical probability. However, in this case, I agree with all but #4.

Let's say we're late in the game, score tied with runners on 1st & 2nd (regardless if they were walks or valid hits). #4 batter is up. In this scenario, I trust that batter to "do her thing". She's #4 for a reason. If she stands there and takes a couple pitches, you are cheating the team out of a very good opportunity to get a convincing win. Good hitters are good hitters because they are very good at putting strikes into play. They also should be very good at telling a ball from a strike. I believe the aggressive team wins here. You start taking pitches, waiting on a walk, and you wind up in #5 category. Aggressive hitting and baserunning are the trademarks of winning teams.

7. Not being able to get a sacrifice bunt down
8. Not backing up the play
9. Not calling for a fly ball
10. Taking a called third strike
11. Not getting the sure out
12. Not hustling all the time
13. Not being mentally prepared to play

In most cases you could add SWIMMING on there on game day. Strangely enough my dd seemed to do better when she swam during one day in a tournament. It was blazing hot that day, they played two games that Saturday morning/afternoon, and I thought 30 minutes shouldnt been to bad. ?She hit the ball hard and played a tough 1st base that night game against the Lady Lasers.

I told her this wont be a common thing,LOL. I remember my days of playing baseball. The days I swam, I was totally worthless and tired for the game!
