The 10U Westerville WarCats capped a 6-0 weekend by winning the New Albany Classic today, defeating the Lancaster Thunder in the championship game, 5-4 in 8 innings. Congratulations to the New Albany people for another well run event, the Thunder for qualifying for their second championship game in as many weeks and all of the participating teams - there are no games off anywhere in 10U!

Wolfster - I am curious as to your definition of a "rec" team. Just because a team is community based doesn't necessarily make it a rec team. Community based teams just have different "rules" about who can play for them. Just because a team is rec doesn't mean that they don't enter and compete in tournaments with club teams that don't have geography restrictions for their players. Teams playing in the I270 tournament this week compete with those club teams all the time. I know of one u12 community based team that beat a very, very reputable club team twice over this past weekend.

Wolfster, I take exception to your post. The insinuation that community based teams are recreation level is patently inaccurate and insulting. Further, disparaging recreational programs is simply not fair as this is where most all of our "elite" girls get their first game experience and those who are not moving on to travel are afforded the opportunity to learn and enjoy the game.

I can tell you from firsthand experience that Plain City, Worthington and Olentangy have emerging programs. I also have been impressed by Lancaster and Baltimore, but suspect that a good number of those girls will end up on The Classics.

I think I join my fellow I-270 League coaches in inviting your club to a friendly. Anywhere. Anytime.

One of the Olentangy teams played the Ohio Hawks to itb at Gapps. Not bad for a "rec" team I would say Wolfster.

They walked thu the league last year you would think that they would play at 12u. There is only 2 teams that might give them a game plain city and worthington. Plain city might not be a rec team but that is it. Just because you play in 1 tour. Don't make you a travel team. The 3 and 5 seed both rec teams got smoked by plain city and the warcats. Rest my case

Wolfster,

If you are talking about last years 10U Warcat team they are playing at 12U this year. This years Warcat 10U team is a totally different group from Westerville. I would add that New Albany, Worthington, Plain City, Olentangy, Gahanna (Which won there own tournament this weekend, Good job Lions) Dublin and several other community based programs are very good. Just because they do not recruit from all over does not make them bad or inferior. Plus there is talent in rec ball also ( Maybe parents that cannot afford or do not have the time to commit to travel ball. Why such an elite attitude? Softball is for all girls.

Did notice that the challenge for a game was ducked by the wolfster. Guess it's all talk and no walk with his team

Wolfster,

I don't usually jump into petty arguments, but what would you think of 'rec' teams who:

1) Finish runners-up in a 20 team tournament that included the Classics, the Stingrays and MOV FLaming Fury?
2) Finish 7-1 in an 8 game tournament at berliner with the only loss being to the Ohio Dragons--by 1 run.
3) Win the Heart of Ohio Celebration?

Not bad for I270 'rec' teams, huh?

I would never claim that community based travel teams could compete with the 'elite' club teams on a regular basis. But on any given Sunday...

As an I270 coach, whose daughter has been invited to play with several tournament teams throughout the year, I think there's something to be said for keeping players within a community together. Everyone has to do the right thing for their DD, but I can tell you we've been impressed with the level of competition within the league & at community type tournaments. It's also a beautiful thing when you spend countless hours teaching kids who've never played a lick of travel ball how to play the game, and they go out & get it done. From the parent of a pitcher, you still have to bring it as hard & as fast as you can, and the corners on home plate are the same no matter what "level" you're playing at.

Yes Wolfster, we are playing 12U 270 this season. Tuesdays and Thursdays to boot.
Also challenging the team with Berliner, Gapss, Toledo, and the tough Gahanna tourney this past weekend.

Taking our lumps at times but the girls are giving it their best.

Why the sour grapes? Do we know you?

No sour grapes here. You don't see any other good travel teams getting into the 270 league. They might have a day set up for travel teams but they don't get in the tounament. You have good rec teams and good players on some rec teams but from top to bottom you can't compete. When you play with who you got unlike travel teams that can pick from 30- 60 girls. also what team are you talking about winning and coming in 2nd in them tournaments warcats or plain city?

Again....get your facts straight here....the 270 league provides travel teams the opportunity to play games during the week. All these teams play in tournaments all over Ohio....even winning some of them! Let's just congratulate the 10U Warcats on a nice win and move on....and Wolfster you should just go to the REC ball forum and stay there.
