12U Showcase Team??????

I have been Coaching now for 19 years. So I'm a little old and maybe I'm just not up with the times. But this weekend at Heatin' It Up. There was a Coach from Club "M" in the stands informing parents, that he was taking a 12U Showcase Team in another organization. Coaches move all the time so that is not an issue nor that he was recruiting for next year. But what caught my interest is the label "12U Showcase Team". Can anyone help me understand for who 12U's Showcase for?

The truth is, very very few 8th graders are being recruited for softball, let alone 12u. The ones that are are phenomenal pitchers that are 14yrs old and 5'10 + throwing in the sixties or on rare occasion, an eight grade short stop with a ton of speed. Sure there are some 8th graders getting looks but even at 14u, it's rare. There are just too many variable...
Ask the 14u teams that have flown to Florida or have traveled to Colorado how many coaches "watched" their kids at a 14u tournament, it doesn't happen......coaches have only so much time and can only get to so many events and they attend the 16u/18u showcase events.....I doubt ANY 12u team can compete at 16u. It's extremely foolish to shell out that kind of money at 12u even 14u unless your kid is that rare gem.

Seen a few people use the word "showcase" incorrectly or to mean something else ... like synonymous with "elite" ... his first name wasn't Billy was it? ;)

And while we are on the subject, I don't really see the benefit of 14u showcase tournaments....those elite 14u teams should be playing in 16u or 18u events if they want to be seen

Hahahaha a showcase for 12u? Let me guess, they will be called GOLD as well. Good luck with that....and please let us know which colleges actually come out and watch this team play 12u or 14u.

I'm scratching my head wondering why you would wait til 12U, why not an 8U Showcase Team?

My DD is one of the best 4U first baseman in the state she doesn't even play with the dirt anymore

now if I could just get her to stop hi-fiving the other team as they round the bases I think she would be all set
