Well very interesting day errr weekend. 14U Maddogs played 1st and last pool games saturday. So we new it would be a long day, but we really had no idea. We finished pool play around 10pm and went into elimenation we took out Parma then in exciting Saphire game beat them in INTB 6-5 what a game by the Maddogs. Very exciting and huge win against very good well coached team. Well after being the first there and 4 in a row in the early morning we ran out of gas and lost to Holly Hills. Which played the Slammers in Finals which beat Lady Lasers(red).
Girls great job this weekend girls in adverese conditions ?:)

rays roster must have several tough kids. I saw their SS (maybe ?, was not coop) take a direct hit to the mid thigh from a scorched , I mean blistered line drive as she took her lead off 3rd base . I defintely thought she would be carried off. . Nope, she limped for few minutes, took her spot back at 3rd.

Also playing late on sat to get games in is BETTER than not playing late and then losing sunday to rain. Better to be proactive. The radar yesterday showed a huge spread of green that looked like there was no way it it could miss all of ohio. MD

Sounds like Tigertown did everything it could to get the games in - have to respect that. This has always been one of my favorite tournaments.

So who ended up winning - sounds like the Slammers in the 14u based on one of the posts?

What about 12u?

Thanks!

At 7:15 AM the Tigertown Annual Spring Tour. ended!!! After playing all day Saturday and all night into Sunday AM the 12U Pitts. Furies defeated Ohio Ice Silver in a game based on guts and amazing determination (and caffeine galore for the few adults that braved the entire night) . It was a back and forth game that ended as the sun started to shine. Congrats to two amazing teams (girls you are incredible), fans and a heck of a ground crew. Ice Silver edged out Laser Gold and Furies beat Roadrunners to get to the championship game.

At 6 AM the Slammers finalized a win over Holly Hills to take the 14U title.

I know there will be a lot of chatter as to wether or not these games should have been played. Tough call that Tigertown had to make. I will say that they did try to get a majority consensus from coaches to agree to the extended format based upon the weather forecast. As I look out my window it is an absolute down pour and it was probably the right call if teams wanted to get more than just pool play in. I have mixed feelings, but at Noon on Saturday playing into the morning seemed like something that needed to happen in order to get the tournament in. At 4:30 AM this morning I wasn't so sure!! I know at 7 AM I thought what the heck just happened. At this point I am still a little groggy and not sure this wasn't a dream.

Tigertown - you did what you thought needed to happen. Ultimately, I do know of one team that walked away. D***ed if you do D***ed if you don't!! Tough call.

I must be the first one awake so I"ll start, 13 Slammers and 14u Madddogs were playing the final when we left at 5;30am don"t know the score?

12u Ohio Ice and 11u Laser Gold played an awsome semi with the Ice winning in the bottom of the 7th 7-6 to advance to the final to face the Fury . That game was scheduled to start at 6:00am.

Tigertown officals gotter done that"s sure very long day/night/morning. Our girls are from all over the state and were unable to leave the park because officals were making schedule desisions on the fly so we had to be available to play at any time, thank goodness for a good connsession. Our last pool game was at 9:pm and our 1st elim. game was at 1:am. and to finish our 2nd elim game at 5:30am

Thanks to a very dedicaited staff at Tigertown. ?

For those of you concerned about the pitcher for the 12U Stingrays that got hit, it was Coop. Incredible play, it did sound terrible. Both of her upper thighs are purple, black, blue and red....wow! Still can't believe she made the play after that hit. Then, in our 2nd elimination game against the Slammers, which was about 2:00 am, she took a line drive to the head. Luckily she had on her mask, and the mask took most of the hit.
Hats off to the field crew and concessions, they really worked....all day, all night and all morning. Very proud of the Stingrays, played some excellent teams, tough games, and still hung in there, and still made it to the second round of eliminations. Good job!
Here are the scores for Stingrays:
Loss to Slammers 10-2
Win over Lady Lasers Red 1-0
Loss to Akron Saphires 7-0
Win over Strausburg Tigers 9-7
Loss to Slammers 11-1

Wow, what a night. Funny thing is that I was stuck in Columbus most of the day and hustled back hoping to catch "a" game late afternoon around 5:00, ... little did I know that we would be leaving the park at 3:00 am. Hardest part was waiting from 7:30 (after last pool game) till 11:30 just trying to figure out waht was happening. But many people felt like it would be best to just knock it out while we are all there rather than go home and drive back after a cat nap. It was a little wild, and odd in that this was "pre-emptive" but actually a little of an adventure in some ways for the kids. If it were scheduled as an "all nighter" tournament it would probaly be thought of as fun, having it sprung on you takes some getting used to, lol - no problems though.

Congrats to all the teams that persevered throught the night and left as champions, I am sure you will remember and joke about that night forever.

Congrats to the Mad Dogs, who knocked out the Sapphires in a great ITB game - you played a courageous game, getting clutch hits in last chance situations, and making tough plays to win, including throwing out some slow poke kid ( :p) at home to end the game at 2:45 am. I have replayed that game in my head, all the ways we blew it (okay, all the ways you won it) - Nice job after we had gotten you earlier in the day, your kids have heart! What a game, given all of the other stuff!

Looking at the weather today - I think it was the only way to get the games in. We would all be b****ing if we finished the pool play on Saturday and all the tournament games were cancelled on Sunday. Our 10U team lost and was out of there by 12:30, but I have to give cudo's to the girls who played. As a parent, we just had to wait and watch, but the girls had to somehow go out there and play all night and into the morning after playing all day and stay pumped up. Good Job to all the girls. By the way - who won the 10U's. There were 3 teams that were 2-1 after pool play and we were beat by Valley Extreme in the first tournament game.

Re: Diamond Dogs Classic May 9-11
Reply #49 - Today at 6:48pm Rained out on Sunday after a few elimination rounds semis and final was determined by a coin flip.

Well, how about that!!! lol Can you imagine losing to a coin flip?!?! I am grateful for the opportunity Tigertown gave us to play all night. Maybe those of you who have voiced their displeasure with playing all night would have preferred a coin toss? Guess you can't please everyone.

Although it was definately COLD, we contributed to the economy comeback by purchasing comforters and blankets from the Walmart across the street, the concession people manned their booth ALL night to provide us with hot chocolate and coffee, I overheard some parents wear down and agree to allow their DD to have an energy drink (lol), the umpires and grounds crew were kind enough to pull an all-nighter, most parents minded their manners even though they were thoroughly exhausted from being there all day and the emotional roller coaster we ride with our DD's wins and losses................and the BEST thing of all??? Win or lose,...............no one got hurt (seriously), I heard lots of delirious laughter, saw a ton of smiles, some zombie looks (mostly parents), heard a team of 10u girls sing their moms Happy Mothers Day at 1:30am, and our girls created an all-nighter softball memory that few can brag about! Can you imagine the stories they'll be telling their friends at school on Monday? We parents were also privlidged, in many ways, to share in this memory. I just want to say how proud I am of ALL the young ladies that played all day and all night! Hope you all slept well on Sunday! I know my Coop has not moved much off her bed and the sofa! :p lol Good job to all!! Thanks Tigertown for the experience!! :D

I would like to say to the volunteers that busted their butts all day yesterday and from the sound of it most of this morning........THANK YOU! I know you had some complaints from some but I say thanks for the memories! Spur of the moment "ALL NIGHTER"! As many of the parents and coaches stressed over when they would play the girls huddled under blankets, laughed, giggled, and probably had one of the best times in their lives. Congrats to all the winners what a test of endurance. As Coop said his dd hasn't move much.....Pepper has been in bed since we got home.......what a blast. Thanks Tigertown for giving my dd and me a lasting memory.

Go Rays

Re: 2008 Tigertown Annual Spring Tour. Game Schedu

that was one wild full day of softball! ? Literally. ?Starting at 12 noon, playing 3 in a row, then getting a long break only to come back and start the elimination round at 12:30 am, ?is definitely a strange way for things to happen. ?But looking back, is was alot of fun for our girls.

First off, thanks to Darla and all involved in running this. ?We weren't sure at the time that the decision to run it all night was the right one, but see now that it was the best thing to do in order to guarantee the games get played. ? Sure, is there an increased chance for injury? ?Yes. ?But she stated they they would monitor the situation and left open the possibility of pushing some games into Sunday if need be. ?They realized doing this was a little risky. ?She and the rest of the tourney staff and field crews did an amazing job. ?Thanks alot. ?There was alot of stress involved with this, I'm sure.

The games themselves were great. ?Alot of good ones in all age brackets. ? ?Our girls, as I'm sure was the case with alot of teams, seemed more down and out the later it got while they waited to play the next game. ?They're 12u so once it got to be 1 am or so you could see they were struggling to stay awake. ?But when the games would start they would find a 2nd wind, then a 3rd wind, then a 4th. ?All teams seemed to do that. ? The 12u championship, finishing at 7:15 am or so, was a great game. ?Starting in the dark but finishing with the sun up was really, really wierd. ?Ohio Ice is a very good team. ?You'd think at that point you'd see some sloppy ball. ?But both teams were as sharp as ever, in my opinion at least. ?You'd never know these girls had been up all night. ?The same really applies to all teams. ?Roadrunners, Lasers Gold also as they played into the semis in the middle of the night also. ?12u final was a back and forth game, where each team had to answer. ?They score 2 , our girls 4, then they tie. ?Then they go up one, then we tie, ?then we get 2, then they tie, then we get 4. ?It really was who bats last pretty much. ?Congrats to both the Furies and Ohio Ice girls, coaches, and parents for a great finish to a night that will be remembered for a very long time. ?Both for the game itself as well as what each team went thru to get to that game. ?Way to go girls! ?And the same to the Slammers and Holly Hills in the 14u. ? But really all teams deserve to be commended for sticking with the change in format and toughing it out. ?We'll be back next year.

The grounds crew did a great job to get the fields ready for Saturdays game, and every game in between.
I'm very proud of the way the 12u Stingrays played against some of the best 14u teams in the state.
Thanks for a life time memory of the allnighter.

Go Stingrays
