The thing to remember about ASA is that there is the ASA Code, which deals with all of the "admin" stuff and then there is the ASA Rulebook, which deals with the, of course, rules of the game.

The change of 14U to 43', if it were to happen, will be a rulebook change.

USSSA
Rule Changes
Rule 1.1 Pitching Distances ?13U & 14U
Rule 1.1 - Pitching distance for 13U on up will be 43 Ft beginning 1/1/2011.
Change was approved at 2009 convention extending 43 ft pitching distance to
14U & 13U for 2011.

NSA
VERY IMPORTANT:
* IF you are planning to play Outside of Ohio for 10u, 14u, or 16u age level,
PLEASE MAKE SURE to inquire about the pitching distance before sending in payment!

The pitching distance for 14u & 16u will be 43 ft in Ohio this year.
It was voted in as optional (40 or 43 ft) for 2010 ONLY within our individual states, but at World Series the distance will be 43 ft.
FYI: In some states, the High Schools will be starting the 43 ft program in the spring of 2010 and some will not be until the following school year.
It would be a detriment to any team at 16u to have to change their pitching distance if they decide to attend the Worlds Series
so ALL Ohio NSA 16u tournaments will be at 43 ft.

Exactly. If this was changed, it would be released under the Playing Rule Changes.

The ASA pitching distances were not changed this year. In fact, there were virtually no changes that will have any noticable affect on the fastpitch game.

A couple of clarifications were made to the bat rules regarding tape on the knob and safety grip. There was a single clarification regarding the rules about a runner being hit by a batted ball. I'd be surprised if any of those even came up in any of your games last year.

Of note- bat warming has again been made illegal! After allowing bat warming a few years ago, further testing by the equipment committee found that excessive heating could affect the compression of a bat and allow it to perform just slightly above the 98 m.p.h. batted ball speed limit. Thus, heated bats will again be considered as "altered" bats.

And that's it. All of the rest of this year's changes affect only slow pitch softball.
