I just wanted to say we enjoyed our time in Mount Sterling this past weekend at the tournament. The tournament people and volunteers were great. However, there was not a lot of good to say about some of the umpires we encountered. The dd had a great tournament and her team, a new one, had a great experience getting to know each other.

That sounds like a subject worthy of another post or two on the main forum! :)

Hate to say it, but it might have been one of my games. My partner and I did six games last weekend and of all those games had only two controversial plays. It just so happened that they were both in the same game and went against the same team. Neither had any real impact on the final score and I'm confident that we made the right call in the end, but I could see where one coach in particular might not have been happy about it.

Our team did not play particularly well and I am not one to complain about the umpiring but the strike zone in the last game was microscopic. 15 walks! Just called fastballs after the third inning. I guess you can say it was even both ways.

Didn't see you out there Murph, so I can say that this wasn't one of my games! :)

Bret, were you on Field #4 on Saturday? I hate the thought that I missed a chance to meet you.

There were some mind numbing calls on Sunday for sure. Saturday wasn't really too bad, very inconsistent strike zones, but that is par for the course.

As bad as some of the umpiring was, I was appalled by the behavior of parents of a certain team on field 2 on Sunday. This is a high powered organization who must not be acquainted with any level of sportsmanship. If they were batting and a strike was called on their batter, they were up in arms, likewise when a ball was called on the opposing team's batter. But the shocker was when they were batting and the right fielder of the opposing team was injured during a play. I could not believe my ears when I heard a few of the parents screaming for her to be dragged off the field because game time was becoming a factor. Honestly, I have never heard parents be so thoughtless and lacking sportsmanship in my life!! Even at the rec level many years ago!! Other than that, although we did not perform as well as we should have, a great tournament. And the local diner, Bob & Joy's...to die for burgers!!!!!

Oh good, in one sense. On the other, I'm sure my dd's coach, Lake Erie Hillbilly, really feels he could have used you on our fields. But, I'll let him get into it, if he so chooses. I really think he'd rather put certain parts of the weekend behind us.
