Hitting and Hitters Discussion 4 Keys for Hitting with 2 Strikes

Getting the good two eyed look is very important to us. Good depth perception helps to track the ball and using both eyes help.

I have been using the Nike Strobe glasses and can make the following observations.

The rate of flashing on and off makes you anticipate where the ball will be in relationship to your mechanics.

You must have your swing in sequence in order to hit the ball. Usually you be high on contact and hitting the top of the ball for a period with the glasses on. Afterwards the kids are telling me it is much easier to hit the middle of the ball.

If a good two eyed look is not used it makes it much more difficult to hit the ball.

Being able to darken the left or right eye makes it more difficult to hit the inside or outside pitch.

This is where the rotate as needed comes into play.

We teach bat control first by hitting up the middle to a target area. The belly button is pointed towards the pitcher. We use painters tape and they pause after every swing to see where the tape is pointing and to look into the mirrors as to head and leg angle and position.

Next is the outside pitch and again we have a target area to hit at and show the relationship of the belly button and that less rotation is required and a wait for the ball approach and early release of the bat will put the ball to the opposite field.

To pull the ball is taught last. Catching the ball out front by the green or blue line and then allowing the hips to rotate
further and holding the wrist angle longer and directing the belly button to be pointed at the short stop or possibly to the third baseman's playing position gives them a visual.

Thanks Howard
