Have to agree with Joe A. Stats are a pet peeve of mine , since most have no clue how to keep accurate books. High School stats are a complete joke, at least in our area. We keep our stats on an excel program that Jim Clark set up. We only share them with coaches and then players at the end of the year so they can update profiles. I don't know how many times I get a question on why something is not a hit, was an error or not a stolen base and I hear , well in high school it was! There is a local high school that shows a stolen base on every passed ball and they always have the top 2 or 3 girls in the paper in stolen bases. You can look at profiles on line and see the gaps between high school and travel ball and know something just isn't right. I was looking at a profile yesterday and the young lady has a BA that was just not real, and she had 2.60 to first base. When you see these things , you know why college coaches don't trust stats.

Stats are never going to be "Pure" as long as humans are doing the interpretation of what is or isnt a hit. Ect. Are they useful. Yes. Should they be considered gospel? No.

You have to have someone who is familiar with the rules of scorekeeping for them to be close to accurate. The average parent isnt that person.

How many softball parents are "average"? :D

Anyway, I speak for myself when I say I totally geek out on keeping score.

How is it that one of the top 7 reasons isn't that it's just plain dumb to give your opponents detailed information about your team strengths and weaknesses.

Precisely. I am sometimes amazed at the information I can get on team websites and public recruiting profiles. Of course it is not possible to "stat scout" every team in most tournaments, but a hotel room with wi-fi can make it possible to scour the internet for information on your most probable opponents for the next day. And for showcases that (thankfully) get their pool play schedules out uber early, there is plenty of time to glean information from the internet about opponents.
