If it is for Crow Hopping I give them credit for making the call. After all it is in the rule book it would be refreshing to have someone actually have the courage to make the right call.

Not even remotely close. Crow hopping was not an issue here. The fact is there was nothing to call and thats what made it so frustrating.

I did not watch the game in question, so I don't want to be construed as making a commentary on that game.. because I am not. However, in general, I watched many illegal pitches at the Stingray's tournament, and illegal pitching has become so prevalent, that we are moving the pitching rubber back to 43 feet, so that all of these pitchers will now actually release from 40 feet. It's sad.

I sent Bretman two clips of my pitcher. I asked him to review it and post his findings on this thread. I tried to put the clips in this post but it did not take.

If anyone else wants to see them, send me an IM with your email address and I will be glad to send them so you can form your own opinion.

Maybe most people don't even know a illegal pitch since they never call them.

As Ohio Wave stated earlier in the post, we played each other the weekend before at Gapss and had no problems. Field ump for that game should stick to t-ball or coach pitch!!

Nothing in the clips jumps out as being illegal.

I would love to know why she was being called for the IP's, so that I could address that specific point. But just going by the clips you sent, I'm scratching my head trying to find anything illegal about her delivery. In fact, she looks very fundamentally sound, with a good pivot foot drag away from the rubber.

Thanks Bret. I appreciate your time in reviewing the clips. Like I said before, she hasn't even received so much as a warning since 11U. What happened Sunday was unbelievable.

Is there a un writen code form the umpires to call certain illegal pitches and not others. WE had a 12U game last night. It is a travel league. The umpire in the first game had given the the pitcher from the visting team two warnings. He stated she was going outside of the 24" wide area. He evan drawed two lines in the dirt for her and showed her the second time what she was doing. He came over to us and told us what he was doing and why he would not make the call. He stated to us because we were the home team that are nailable pithers mound was only 18" and not 24". We told him that was fine and we would address the issue. The next game starts and the new pitcher is replanting pretty easy to see. We asked him to look at it, and no call. We could live with that. The game gets down to the last inning and two outs to go we are up 7-5 girl on third base. Umpire calls an illegal pitch runner scores. We asked him the call. He would not tell us. The next pitch illegal girl goes from first to second. We asked him to explain to our pitcher what she was doing. He said that it was not his job to tell her. He did tell the coach that she was out of the 24" area three times in a row. Going back to the first game he told us he was not going to call it. He gave the opposing team 2 warnings and an explanation. He gave us none. The same girl for us pitch the whole entire first game with no illegal pitch calls. She has been pitching for three years and ses a pitching coach once a week for two years now. The rules state that there are no warnings. The argument broke out and the other team pulled off the feild and left. Are we teaching are girls a double standard that it is ok to change the rules back and fourth. We need to look at what we are teaching the kids the rules are the rules go by them if its illegal call if not call it. There should be no middle ground.

Thanks for taking the time to comment on that bretman. We felt the same way during the game as we saw nothing that could be confused with an illegal pitch. Number 21 deserved better.

With the pitchers plate being smaller he could not call her for stepping outside the lines correctly, or he just didnt like you guys. I know with screw you have to step way over and you get close. I cant belive he would not tell you how the pitches were illegal, that bites, and makes it hard on coaches to fix whats wrong. Mabey he just wanted to get home to dinner.

We had an umpire that called one illegal pitch after we brought it to her attention but then said she was not illegal the rest of the game. This pitcher re planted on every pitch the entire time. This is the reason so many girls continue to do it. Why change if it might get called once a game or once a month. The advantage is worth it if that is the most they will call it. Do you think I could just have my pitchers start two feet in front of the rubber like those who jump and plant that drive foot again.

I umpire and have watched many games and there are not very many pitchers crow hopping. Just dosent happen that often. If their toe is pointed down they are not crow hopping. They could how ever be leaping. Many coaches and umpires do not know the difference. I there is any type of drag near the pitchers plate there is NO crow hopping.

I beleive many coaches do not know what their talkin regarding pitching infractions about and only complain when their team is loosing.

I have to be 100% positive before I call it.

All he did was criticize "whatever pitching coach" works with her and that we should review videotapes.... I know illegal pitches, I have been around too long not to know. She is not illegal. This umpire has some pretty severe problems. I pity anyone who gets him for a tournament. He ruined what should have been a great experience by the team. No one enjoyed that game.

If an umpire is going to call illegal pitches, they should do it right away. Don't wait for a crucial point in the game! Pitchers who throw illegally generally do it from the first pitch. They don't change their technique in the middle of the game. The umpire needs to take charge right from the start. Explain the infraction. If the pitcher can't fix it, they need to go to a good instructor who can.
