This question is mainly directed to Coaches!

Had a Dad that was drunk walk into our dugout during the last game of a Tourney, in which we took 1st. Boy! that was FUN!

Had a parent spit on me after a game several years back. He was also intoxicated at that game!

And of course there is the usual parental whining.

Seeing a few injuries on the field, including the DD seperating her knee.

I was coaching my mens softball team and was in a tournament and it was close to gametime and a player hadnt showed, and we had to play short until another showed up, turned out the guy overdosed and died that previous night.

No offense FPB, but I prefer to forget about any bad things and remember the good things. The bad things take away from the game and I am more about giving to the game.

Its a good conversation for me, because at times it makes us really consider why we do it. I haven't had any major incidents fortunately. Just a few injuries, and a few parent disagreements, is all.

Last year was coaching my son's teeball team. We had twin girls on the team. Their mom kept dissappearing. So finally she shows back up about a half hour after the game reeking of liquor. So the park manager sat with her till 9:00 entill her husband came and got her. The worse thing about it is when one of the girls asked me if her mommy was going to go to jail again.

Blue,

had the drunk dad once too. I expected the worst and it turned out OK. I should have offered him a tic-tac!:eek::eek::eek:

Overall it's been great! I tend to "flush" the bad stuff and keep the good times rolling

I watched my dd take a line drive to the eye playing 3rd and the #$%!@ opposing coach was more worried about getting his girl to second. Still hate to see a frog on a dd eye.Still get flash backs.

Had a center and right fielder collide at full speed on a gapper in the championship game.... fortunately, it was on the opposing team... it ended up ending the game after two rescue squads transported the players to the hospital. We were up 4-2 in the 4th inning. One girls was out for the season, the other was out for a few weeks.
I have seen way too many injuries over the past few years.... they are never fun regardless if they are our players or our opponents.

As a coach the worst thing that I have to do is cut kids every year! Not an easy thing to do! I feel that is the worst thing about travel softball that I have to deal with!!!

Watching my youngest her last year in 12u collide with center fielder. Came down on glove hand and broke thumb at the growth plate. Had to secure glove on hand and drive eight miles to the hospital with her in agony. Best part was she kept the ball in the glove for the out. . .worst part, it ended her softball days.

Watched my best student collapse on the field from heat exhaustion and watched her struggle to keep breathing until the ambulance got to her for treatment. In the end it all turned out fine but when it was happening it was a scary situation as a coach.

last year I had a 10 yr old boy slide into second base, keep in mind he has brittle bone disease, his front cleet sticks and slams him face first into the bag. This knocked him unconscious and he wasn't breathing when I got to him. His lips were turning blue and he had on a chest protector. I slapped his face and got no reaction. I flipped him around, released his diaphram and he finally took a breath of air. I couldn't do cpr through the chest protector, and I thought I was going to lose a kid on the ball field, then he gained consciousness. The ambulance came and since I flipped him around he complained of back pain, so i thought i broke his back, lucky for me I didn't break anything and he was fine and did finish the season. His parents bought me a guardian angel pen that I wore on my hat for the rest of the season.

My first year when I started coaching Rec. there was a Mom that done the very same thing on our team. Her DD could have been a very good player. But a few years later, the Mom was involved in a car wreck intoxicated of course killing both DD that played for us and her youngest DD. That was a very Sad Time for the team. Now Mom is in prison, with no children!

FASTPITCH! Anything else, And you're playing to SLOW!

My worst was after seeing a girl I had coached all through the rec leagues and became an outstanding ball player in HS, was with a drunk driver during graduation and was in a horrendous accident where she has been a quadraplegic ever since. We still keep in contact.

Well mine happened last night at practice. We were timeing the girls around the bases so I decided to show them how to run the bases. So got my bunt down perfect if I must say so myself. Sprinted out of the box like a jack rabbit. Perfect angle to round 1st perfectly hit the inside corner the it all went BAD VERY BAD lost my footing I know that is hard to beleave for those that know me and my cat like agility, but yes it's true went down hard sprained wrist in a attempt to tuck and role hurt my shoulder.
Well with that being said parents and kids got great laugh. Then the girls said you did that unpurpose My reply " Of course I did"

All though I will say glad it was on that wonderfull turf so I kinda bounced. Which probable helped reduce the damage to my body.

For those of you that don't know me you have to imagine a man about 5'7" andd 280lbs
so you understand the sight.
