As a Coach what is one of the worst things to happen to you while coaching?

In the 80's, I was coaching a women's softball team and our shortstop took a very bad hop right between the eyes. The ball was hit so hard that when the ball hit, it split the skin in a perfect "Y" at the top of her nose. I knew it was bad when I heard the ball hit her face. It also knocked her out. We rushed out to aid. Lucky for me, there were 2 nurses on my team and they immediately took over.

The two years ago, our assitant coach goes off on the umpire for calling a girl out for not sliding at home. When I mean go off, I mean he looked like he was going to stroke out! He was swiftly ejected, not to return to coach the rest of the day and I felt compelled to apologize to the TD! By-the-way, SDS was our opponent. It was at the Concord Clash...anyone remember? The team was the Troy All-Stars. I will remember...forever!!!!!!!!

Have any of us gotten the message from body to brain yet. We are not 18 anymore. I know mine brain refuses to listen to my body, and the body like to do fun things like, ache, scream and swell in protest. LOL

I've always wondered where the "Not Sliding Rule" came from? I hear that in even H.S. games sometimes, Then I have to correct the coach.

FASTPITCH! Anything else, And you're playing to SLOW!

"Avoiding malicious contact" is what I've always been told and have read. My son had a hockey player on his team years ago and came home standing straight up and took out the catcher. He was prmptly call out and ejected. They said "he intended bodily harm". How do they know what a kid "intends"?

It happened recently...

A great former player of mine recently died in a car accident. Very sad..

I wrote about it on my blog.

That was a very nicely done tribute to her memory. Losing a current or former player is one of my biggest fears. My daughter lost two of her select ****** teammates a couple of years ago...it was terribly tragic. The girls jumped into a car with one of their guy friends after school. He was showing off by racing a friend and crashed. It was one of the girls birthday and her parents had a surprise party planned for that night....great kids too!
