I have conflicting answers to this question....how many berths are being awarded with the 16u's this year?

There is still one loose in the Dayton Metro area that has never been announced which I personally think is bull but maybe contacting Shorty Brewer out of Dayton can be of some help. There may still be one out of the Cincinnati Metro area as well.. but haven't seen anything announced on it. And if Cincy is going to do anything like their lower age groups... it will be for ONLY Cincy metro teams.

I think I can shed some light on the 16U and 18U Dayton Metro USA/ASA berths. We were going to work with Shorty on doing a tournament that would award the 16 and 18u berths to the winners.
There were several issues with having a tournament and offering the older berths.
1: It would of been later notice than we like for putting on an event
2: By the time best HS players are available there are several other tournaments such as ASA State and then many high profile showcases the next weekend.
3: Tournaments that award USA/ASA berths need to be top notch and adhere to specific guidelines. It would have been hard to provide all that this tournament deserves.
We are planning to work with Dayton Metro ASA again next year and offer USA/ASA berths at each age group. If we are fortunate enough to do this, we will give as much notice as possible.

Still wondering what Dayton is still doing with their berths? I mean, that is an open berth and I am sure there are some teams that would like to have that chance to win the berth that might not do college showcases. That's what the berth is all about. You, as a team, have to decide which is more important. Looks like to me, that the Fourth of July weekend was a great weekend to hold the event actually.

FIRECRACKER FRENZY (formally Lady Bear Classic) Girls Fastpitch Tournament. The Firecracker Frenzy is host to the 2010 USA/ASA Metro Cleveland Junior Olympic Tournament for age groups; 10u, 12u, 14u, 16u, 18u.
Metro Cleveland is now part of Ohio ASA. With the new afilliation to Ohio ASA the tournament date has been moved.
New Date, July 2 - 4, 2010.
Winners receive metro bids to the USA/ASA "A" Tournaments. 10u @ Chattanooga, TN - 12u @ Bloomington, IN - 14u @ Moline, IL - 16u @ College Station/Bryan, TX - 18u @ Hemet, CA. USA/ASA Dates August 1 - 8, 2010

June 19th-20th for 16u as ASA 18u State is in Hamilton, Ohio,
June 26th-27th, Fourth of July weekend or even July 10th-11th was a good weekend.
College showcases are all summer long... so how do you pick a good date? You can't. It's a Metro event that is now opened up and You pick one and go with it.
To not have the event is absolutely ridiculous and is a terrible standard to be set by Dayton Metro. Terrible and inexcusable to the 16u and 18u teams of Ohio who want to go to the Nationals
