Any teams going down to the ASA Hall of Fame tourney in Oklahoma City in June? We got our registration email yesterday - should be a great time - we hope to catch the final college WS game on Weds before.

Anyone been there - any advice on what to expect?

They asked for player info, logo and photos for the video scoreboard, that will fire up the kids.

12u Teams that have accepted the berth so far are:

Stripes and Strikes Sugarloaf, PA
Ohio Hawks 98 Middletown, OH
BNGSA Angels Bloomington, IL
Thunderbolts 98 Jasper, AL

HOF is one of the top tournies there are. It has all the atmosphere of ASA Nats. It is an experience I would suggest to anyone.

It draws alot of the top teams in the nation. Although not as large as the Firecracker or Sparkler in Colorado It is defiantly worth attending if the opportunity arises.

The way it used to be done is every team gets to play at least one game on the main field. They put the kids faces when at bat on the jumbo tron and called their names like they would see if they were in college. The younger kids really got a kick out of that. Have fun with it. Its a great time and mind blowing complex.

Took a team there in 2005...Great experience. Hall of Fame next door. For down times in the evening take the girls to the Bricktown section. Lots of restaraunts and entertainment plus The AAA team stadium. We also visited the Federal Building bombing Memorial.

Let's just hope that next year it isn't the same weekend as ASA States.

Though if we could get a berth I'm guessing we would go to Oklahoma rather than States, hard as that choice might be.

How do you qualify for this tournament? Sounds like a great experience. I was able to see Team USA play there last July at the World Cup, and it is a beautiful facility.

HOF qualifiers are held in the fall/Sept time frame .. we are working with the ASA commissioners here in Ohio to host one in the fall for Ohio's berth's.

They are not heavily attended by teams since the 3 day tourney is in Ok in June but we are going to give it a try and see how many teams we can get in.. stay tuned!

It will probably always be for one age group...The HOF Tournament runs 4 weekends in a row. They just bring 1 age group at a time.

You are right Lions. This year it happens that the tourney for 16U is the same weekend as 16U States. There wasn't a qualifier held last fall for 16U but we abandoned further investigation as to whether we could get a berth once we realized it was the same weekend as States. This year it looks as though there will be a Bustos related qualifier in the fall.

haven't been to OKC in 6 years, but Cowboy Hall of Fame is there. They have a very nice zoo. they have a Bass Pro there that is twice as large as the one in Forrest Fair Mall with lots of animal displays. I went to the Hall of Fame about 12 years ago--they had something on Chris Miner then --don't know if it's still there. Bricktown is very nice. And see if the Mickey Mantle steakhouse is there--it's near the AAA ballpark and very close to Bricktown--take $$$$.
There is also horse racing there.

Overall lots to do. Very easy to navigate since the streets are laid out in a grid. It's very sprawling. Oh, and be careful, they are in tornado alley.

Last--it's generally windy all the time.

Have a blast and good luck there.

Wow, it's hard to imagine a Bass Pro Shop twice as big as the one at Cincinnati Mills. That one is huge itself. They should still have something on Chris Miner at the HOF as well.

Here is a link to the Bricktown area:

There is also a restaurant in the old stockyard section called Cattlemen's Steakhouse which has been featured on the Travel Channel's Man vs. Food, and the Food Network.

The Ultimates fall tournament/clinic "Ultimate Beast of a Qualifier" (the clinic is Bergy and teh Beast) will be giving a berth to OKC HOF tourney at our September tournament. Dates are Sept 23-25

We are also offering 2 berth to the ASA Eastern Nats during this same weekend.
1st and 2nd place will go to ASA Eastern and 3rd place in each age group will get the berth to OKC.

For those attending the Hawks tournament next weekend Crystl will be there with information about the Sept tournament. For more info you can also email Mary Ellen Bonner at gotbustosclinics@gmail.com for a registration form.

That has to be a typo, right? Third place goes to OKC? How does one strategize to place third in a tournament?

No typo, we wanted to offer teams the choice but Michelle made the decision that 1st and 2nd place would take ASA Eastern and 3rd would get the berth to OKC. Have to go with what she tells us to do. Being able to offer 3 berths we didn't want to complain-lol

I have to say that is a wrong decision. Is Michelle an ASA official? As you can see from other threads here, it is becoming apparent that a team doesn't even need to win anything to get a berth to the ASA Easterns. To require a team to make strategy decisions to place third in a tournament makes a mockery of the game, in my opinion.

Who should I contact to complain about this?
