ASA/USA National Qualifiers

Can someone explain the bidding process in Ohio for ASA Qualifiers? I didn't understand it when I was there and there isn't a bidding process in Fla - so I just don't get it.

BITD we had teams from Cali come to the events to get the bids. Does that still happen, or has Ohio started to really load up and play the events?

And I am talking about the ASA/USA Championships - not the easternsouthernwesternnationals.

Doom has never applied to hold a Region 9 qualifier. We helped sponsor the 12U Cincy Metro along with Patty a few years back, but that was it.

My mistake...I was thinking of Patty's deal as well at Rivershore and not USA qualifiers...

SoCal teams don't need to travel for ASA/USA berths any more. First, there was a huge expansion of SoCal Assoc. berths from 3 to 12 in 2009 (now 13). Second, the creation of Premier in 2010 and subsequent conflicting schedule with USA/ASA Nats has dramatically reduced the competition for USA/ASA berths here.

Teams chasing a berth outside their region would be smart to pick an easier place than Ohio. The SoCal 14u team that went in 2010 did so based on the coach's previous experience in Ohio when it wasn't as competitive and it was aided by not having to beat a previously qualified team to get the berth. The improved level of play in Ohio and the NQ being held before almost all the other OH qualifiers makes it very competitive to get the berth there.

Orville-They are talking about ASA/USA NQ's here. From what I hear you guys don't even need a qualifier for your tournament to attract teams. Every 14u coach loves the event and misses it once they age out!

Was originally scheduled for June 15-17, 2012
It is NOW:

Flarays...
I am not sure if anyone explained the bidding process for the NQ's in Ohio. The bidding process usually is in December.....Only District Commissioners can vote. Typically the commissioner in the area of the prospective tournament gives a short chat on why they should get the bid.... sometimes the tournament director or representative from the community will say a few words. Then there is a secret vote by paper.
From my experience, ASA is looking to spread out these tournaments in different areas of the State. Anyone can bid on them. Typical bids range from $25.00 per participating team up to $70.00 or so. Occassionally you will get a straight bid of $500 - $1500.00 per tournament.
I am still not quite sure what it takes to get a winning bid. There has been times where we had the highest bid amount and didn't get it even though we ran it very successfully the year before.
Trust me, being an ASA District Commissioner does not always guarantee it either!!!!

Thanks fast2home

It is just very funny to me how the associations are so different state to state - how you get the qualifiers, the national berths, etc.....

This was the posting on the Western PA ASA website.....

UPDATED: Penn-Ohio Classic: In conjunction with Ohio ASA, we will be hosting the "Penn-Ohio Classic" which will be open to Ohio & Pennsylvania ASA teams only, with the HIGHEST placing PA. and the HIGHEST placing OHIO team being awarded a direct berth to the ASA/USA National Championships, this tournament will be in the 14U age divisions and Ohio ASA will be hosting the 10 & 12U age division. We are very excited with this concept and hope you will support it as we team up with our neighbors in OHIO to offer some of the best competition in the area. Hopefully if the tournament concept is well received we will expand it to the 16 & 18U age groups in 2013.

No where or when yet!!!!

The ASA National Convention is going on this week (November 5th-11th)...i'm guessing the date of this tournament & official location will be finalized then, along with pitching distance for the 14u age group.
