Has anyone had any experience and/or success with the split grip technique? I don't think I've ever seen it used, purposefully, in Ohio girls fastpitch and I don't know of any coaches that teach it.

Yep, Ty Cobb. I threw this out there several weeks back. Didn't get a ton of feedback.

I teach players a 'half swing' ....
They show bunt; pull the bat back toward the umpire; slide their bottom hand up the handle and then take a hard cut. They have better bat control if they leave a few inches between their hands. We are giving up fence power for a hard grounder which is still way better than a 'K'.
If trying to get a ball in play and the bat control does help.
I'll have to experiment with a gapped grip and see if it really reduces distance. (who can argue with Ty Cobb)
