Question? My DD was ask to fill in for ASA Easterns due to a teams injuries and conflicts. The team was short 1 player and they asked two players to fill in (including my dd). Should I be upset that my DD did not get to play at all the last game. She played 2 innings first game, 5 innings second game and 7innings 3rd game. She played very well Not sure if I should contact coach and talk with him or leave this alone. Your thoughts please.

As a fill in. I personally would not ask. I would be happy that she got that much playing time as a fill in. jmho.

Was playing time in last game promised? Hope not.
What would you accomplish talking to the coach?
Best leave it alone.

Wouldn't you have been more upset if you played for the team the whole season and then during the biggest tournament of the year you sat the bench because a substitute came in and played instead of your child? I'm going to assume that besides travel expenses, you did not invest any other money.
You have to put yourself in the coaches and other players place.
Just a thought.

My first thought was to leave this alone and I will. Thanks for the responses. By the way we had a good time and it was nice meeting other families and players.

With travel ball, there should NEVER be any guarantee of playing time whether you are a sub or not....if the Coach led you to believe otherwise, than take this as a tough (expensive) lesson learned and don't play for that team in the future.

Ditto Zoeysmom...as a sub, be thankful she played that much.

Ridiculous! It's all I could think to say, honestly for you coaches who have coached travel ball and high school ball for years and haven't snapped...I HAVE NO IDEA HOW YOU DO IT!!!

I would say she played more than she should have expected to. DD who is also a pitcher went to nationals as a pick-up player. Didn't pitch a single inning. She was there as a pick-up player and understood her role. Do the job asked of you when it is asked. DP, right field, sit out a game it don't matter just do what is asked to the best of your ability.

Never been so proud of her as I watched her backup the center fielder in the middle of the out field about 10 steps directly behind her as she caught a ball. Catching fly balls, backing up throws and infield grounders, and contributing with her bat.

It was a experience she will never forget and enjoyed very much. :):):)

I would just say that there should be communication between a coach and a pick up player's family re: what they expect playing time to be. If you were told you would play every inning, then you have the right to be upset, but if not ...
