Nice seeing some games at Berliner this past weekend. Any highlights (besides the good weather)?

Alot of good softball, great weather, alot of coaches watching games. It seemed the ball was flying out all weekend, saw a bunch of moonshots. i know my 1st baseman had 4... These kind of weekends are few and far between this late into October.

It was showcase, didnt keep scores and there was free subs etc. so the results would really be skewed. I kept my players rotating in different positions , but of course you had the teams who ran their top 9 the whole game

Yea, looked like Homerun Derby at times! College Coaches dig the long-ball!

Yes I agree that the results mean very little.

I tell my DDs that this is more of a pitching and hitting contest. The college coaches are looking for hitters (not girls who take walks) and hustle. No one is keeping score and it is all drop dead.

And I agree that the ball was flying out. My 2016 DD had 2 herself. And our coach had a college ask about my 2018 DD. It was a perfect day for softball. I keep saying that the HS season should be moved to Fall. And then travel could start earlier. But this is the best time for recruiting. College teams are not playing so the coaches have lots of time to spend looking at players.

Saw some very good teams. And a fair amount of college coaches.

I mostly watched the Ohio Outlaws teams that were there and thought they all looked pretty solid for the most part. Also got to see lasers purple play a couple of games and they were impressive, colleges coaches seemed to be following them around, at least the games that I saw. Heard there were some more solid teams there but didn't get to watch much outside of lasers and outlaws.

Sorry, I have a little different opinion about the tournament, If you were not one of the "in" teams then you were banished to play out in the south forty, I did see one coach on Saturday, and there was one on Sunday, who looked like she was lost and drove by one of the games. Its a shame that there were some good teams from Indiana and Illinois, that drove all that way just to get pushed out to the boonies. I don't know why some teams played all of there games in the middle of the complex and other teams got to look at the middle as they were driving by, There were a lot of upset coaches and players standing out in the middle of an empty field with no one around. On the positive side the porta poties that were provided were very entertaining (looked like a crime scene)

I thought the Tournament was good, didn't see a lot of coaches until Sunday afternoon, Lasers Purple and Pa Outlaws were playing each other. My only problem with it was first game Saturday we are waiting for the other team to show and they had dropped out. So we got to play a fill in team for 45 minutes, not blaming it on Warren or the Outlaws, but if your going to drop out give the Director some notice. It's a lot of money for 4 1/2 games.

I thought it was a great weekend with a lot of coaches in attendance. Seen coaches everywhere we went. Of course there were more in the middle of the park where the concessions and stuff was but we also played two games in the boonies and there were a few there as well. I would say that if the kids did not do their homework and contact the colleges they are interested in with their game times and fields they were playing on then you probably did not see the coaches. They do not go just to wonder around and hope they stumble across a stud. I felt the weekend was awesome and cannot wait till next year.

We were a "in " team, we played every game on the main complex. But we also played one game sunday on the very back diamond and still had 4-5 college coaches in attendance. These were coaches the girls contacted beforehand , i dont think it mattered where we played.

Well I can tell you that it did matter where you played, there wasn't a person other than parents watching the games. And to blame the girls for this is just silly, all teams paid the same entry fee, so all teams should have been cycled around to all fields. This being our first (and probably our last time) at this tourney, being banished to the boonies made the team feel unwelcomed, and a complete waste of time. I'm sure that if I spent my weekend in the main complex I would have a different view.

Actually, at any showcase, if your kids want to be seen, they must do the legwork and contact the coaches. I have been told by a college coach that, unless there is a kid who has been in touch with them on a team, they really have no reason to watch that team. They have many other kids on many other teams playing many other games, to try to fit in watching. They don't have the time or luxury to just wander around hoping to stumble across some suitable player. So yes, in this case, I would blame the coaches and players for not getting looks.

I see, so it is actually my daughters fault that no collage coach wanted to walk a quarter of a mile though cold wet grass to see her team play, and I'm sure that all of the coaches that watched in the main complex were all contacted by you. my guess is that it was more convenient for a coach to stand and watch 4 games at once in a close area than wander off a half mile to the outskirts of the complex to see one game.

Nobody was contacted by me, as my dd did not play in this event. And yes, had your dd made contact, they most likely would have walked through cold wet grass to watch her. That is how showcasing works. It is up to the players and their coaches to put in the work. That's just how it is. Like it or not.

Coaches will also watch teams from good organizations play. We had plenty of coaches at our games.
