From a hitting coach prospective. Match the bat to the type of swing your dd has. Next is all mental. Many have small sweet spots and if your kid can handle a small sweet spot like an RT has ,then its the best bat, but it only works for a small percentage of the kids I work with. Most have a great hit ever now and then, but stick a Insane in the same kids hand and the mis hits now are base hits. Some of my kids have had issues with the Rip It. The ASA Bat Certification wears off and the bat then is illegal to use.

Dan it seems to me that kids that use the R/T,s will by the very nature of the bat have a more disciplined hand path. Its either that or walk around with your hand vibrating for 30 minutes after the at bat.

Maybe that would be a good topic for discussion, do e/l or balanced bats create a certain type of hand path?

Sorry guys I hijacked another one, I,ll go back to lurking again.

Tim you are right, but what happens on these type of posts. Dad goes out and gets little suzzie an RT, since he hears that is the best bat out there and then guess what, happens?

I totally agree that the bat needs to match the girl. If you have a girl who NEVER hits for power, the 5 bats I mentioned are worthless to you. I understand I've only got a few posts, but there are plenty of people that know me and my bat knowledge :)

dd,has nanotek and stealth speed she uses them both, just depends what she feels good with that day.Best year ever for her at the plate, but I have to say its the last two years with the BC that really has made her a better hitter. If she feels that one bat is going to do the job that day then,I let her think "she is one with the bat",old jedi mind trick.

I think it honestly depends on the athlete and which bat she feels more comfortable with. They both are great bats! Good luck with your search.

Are the 2011 RT not as good as the older ones then? A lot of players swing them. It really suprises me that college players from the big name schools don't uses them.

My youngest daughter has used different bats throughout her playing days. Nothing helps more than a great swing.

With that being said, a swing also needs to be matched with the bat. This year she used the cf4 insane edition. She has never hit the ball better.

Is there a bat that works better than others? I would say it depends on how per said player swings. Fundamentally sound swings will hit with most bats, but, you have to match both up to get the best results.

IMO the Xeno bats are just ridiculously good. Last year we went to a ASA Regional qualifier for 16U and there was a team that showed up in their own custom coach bus (not a rental) and that team all shared a Xeno bat. It was comical to see basically the entire team just pick up the same bat left behind by the previous hitter. I'm guessing that if the team had the cash for their own coach bus, they had money to buy whatever bat they wanted but had settled on the Xeno. It was the first time I had heard the noise they make when struck and I thought it was odd, but the ball looks good enough flying off the bat that I do not care what it sounds like. We borrowed one through HS season and borrowed a CF4 over the summer, I finally broke down and bought my DD her own Xeno.

Weird question maybe, but I am looking to buy my (just turned) 10 yr old (consistent hitter, only 2 strikeouts all season but doesnt always hit the sweet spot- she is short but very muscular) her first "good" (i.e. expensive) bat. If certain bats work better for certain girls, the bats change every year with each new model and these bats cost an arm and a leg- how do you know you are getting a bat that will feel good for her unless you have used that model bat before? Is it a crapshoot or are there actually places that will let you try out these models before you buy? I would have a fit if I bought a $200+ bat and she tried it a few times and didn't like it!
I have scoped out EBay but am overwhelmed with the choices and would prefer not to make a blind (or dumb) choice.
