Clinics will be held from 5-7 p.m. Mondays starting on March 18 and ending May 6 at the Explosion Academy, 361 Northeast Ave., Tallmadge, Oh.
There will be a total of 8 class sessions.
The classes, open to players 11 to 14 years old, will focus on building Howard Kobata-style infield skills that were developed specifically for the sport of fastpitch softball.
Bob Hoiles has coached infielding for more than 10 years. His former players and students have had several top-10 finishes at ASA USA and Premier nationals and are now playing for colleges including Ohio State, Kent State and the University of Akron.
Players will be evaluated during the first session and classes will be tailored to the players' ability and experience level.
There will be an emphasis on throwing and fielding mechanics, pivots, bunt defense as well as increasing the player's speed in fielding and releasing the ball. As the course progresses, new skills will be introduced and techniques learned earlier will be reinforced.
Cost is $10 per session with advance registation. $15 at the door. Class size will be limited to allow a low student to instructor ratio.
Students are strongly encouraged to wear face masks or mouthguards. The Explosion facility features a dirt infield, batting cage and pitching lanes.
