Holiday Softball Defensive Clinic
Join us this Holiday Season for our first annual Softball Defensive Fielding Clinic taught by Bob Hoiles and assisted by Brian Anderson. While everyone is clamoring to get a step up with pitching and hitting, hone in your skills with infield techniques developed by Howard Kobata in southern California that are designed to make fielders quicker in fielding the ball and quicker in throwing the ball. Kobata's defensive style is not just warmed-over baseball fielding, but was specifically developed for the sport of fast pitch softball where it has been proven at the highest levels of competition.
Bob has been studying and teaching the Kobata techniques for over 12 years now, Kobata is a close friend and mentor to Bob. With these techniques Bob has players that play for Ohio State, Michigan State, Kent State and the University of Akron. Younger players have signed with or verbally committed to Toledo, Oregon and the University of Connecticut. His coaching experience is quite thorough with being an infield coach for four years with an Ohio team that placed fifth at ASA 12U nationals in Rosemont, California and seventh at ASA 14U nationals in Atlanta, Georgia. He later instructed athletes who played for teams with top-10 ASA 16U and Premier 18-Gold finishes. He also instructed the Ohio Lasers Gold team that won the 2011 ASA 14U national championship.
The Details
The basic lesson covers throwing and catching techniques, the all-important transfer of the ball from the fielding or catching position to the throwing position and pivots -- turning to the right and the left to make throws. The girls also will learn short- and intermediate-range throwing methods that are used around the bases and for bunt defense as well as off-foot throws, which are used in rundowns and other situations. Players will participate in more than a dozen drills during their two-hour clinic. The wearing of mouth guards or facemasks is strongly encouraged. The techniques are presented in a clear and progressive manner and instruction is tailored to the age and ability of the students.
