PORTLAND, Ore. — Daniel Boone finished up pool play with a 15-0 rout of Northwest Czech Republic to advance to the championship bracket of the Little League Softball World Series. Boone, which was seeded fourth in Pool A, plays Monday at 4 p.m. against Wheelersburg, Ohio, or Eastbank from Louisiana in the quarterfinals of the championship bracket. Representing the Southeast Region, the girls from Gray wasted no time jumping on the Europe-Africa team and needed just four innings for Sunday’s win. Kayleigh Quesinberry was 2-for-3 with four RBIs and four runs scored and Kayleigh Musser threw a two-hitter in the victory. “We struggled to hit the slow pitching, but our girls still battled,” Boone manager Lori Jenkins said. They didn’t struggle to score, though. Boone pushed across two runs in the first inning, six in the second, four in the third and three in the fourth. Jenkins is optimistic about the girls’ chances after finishing 2-2 in pool play. “After watching all of the teams play, we still have a legitimate chance,” she said. “As long as the girls believe, we can play with anybody here. We proved that by beating the Pennsylvania team. “I think the nerves are gone. The girls’ mentality is totally different from the first two days. When we beat Pennsylvania, it was like a light switch went off. They are all calm and focused.” Quesinberry hasn’t been surprised by the results. In fact, she believes a championship could come back to Northeast Tennessee. “We just worked together,” Quesinberry said. “I knew we could win these games, and we worked our hardest to try to win. I have confidence we could win the whole thing.” Ava Saul had two RBIs and two runs scored, and Musser also drove in two runs. Kyleigh Bacon had an RBI and scored twice and Anastasia Grove also drove in a run. Riley Croley, Josie Jenkins, Lillie Waters, Sadie Henson and Adriawna Kuykendall each scored once. Lucie Kralova suffered the loss for Northwest Czech Republic, giving up three walks and five runs in 1 1/3 innings. For Musser, it was smooth sailing. “I think the early run support helped me more than anything,” she said. “We just have to keep playing smart and working as a team.”
