Did. You pay him $50 an hour? He teaches how to catch a ground ball and throw it. Its not rocket science! Hitting coaches, fielding coaches, speed and agility coaches, weight training coaches. Where does it stop. Play 2 or 3 sports and develop some athleticism and learn how to compete. Kids do everything with so much structure that they only play when Mom and Dad take them. There's no backyard games where kids monitor themselves and learn how to to get along with teammates and opponents. Trash talk and arguments with umpires are a result of kids not playing backyard games were if you pi@@ someone off they take the equipment and go home! I know its sounds crazy but as you OFCers say its JMHO

Todays athletes are far more advanced then they were when we were kids.
You can either keep up or be passed by.

Most people spend thousands on this stuff and and these guys take the Knowing knowing that the kid is wasting there money. Catching a ground ball is not surgury or dental work. Heck its not auto work. Does anyone have a clue here. Some of you home school your kids but think teaching how to catch a ground ball is above your pay grade? MyvDad was a steel worker that loved the game and taught me enough to get tow DI program. I guess if I would have paid more I would have been in the show.

When we grew up one of our friends dads was a HS coach and was related to Ted Kubiak of the A's , He'd bring in the Yankee players every once in a while to Central jersey and get a carload of us kids on a field for free to do skills workouts... The best one was Craig Nettles and I will remember that one forever.

That is the problem. Softball is not baseball. Lots of differences, in case you don`t know bigger ball and shorter bases. Softball is not hampered down with traditions like baseball. Small ball plays an important part in softball. You would be called a sissy in baseball if you bunted all the time. Baggers you have 45 posts so I would say that makes you an OFCer too.

I coach HS baseball. We went 13 for 14 on Safety and suicide sqeezes this season. Nobody called anyone a sissy. I have had teams that scored 10 plus a game. But I have also had to win 2-1 or 1-0. Just wait until the BBCOR's this year. Baseball will have a renewed emphasize on the short game. I have a daughter that plays Softball loved watching and coaching her. Plus of those 45 post 2/3 were used trying to find players or get my kid on a team. Or in this case, was at my sons band concert trying to kill time until he was back on.

I get what you are saying about neighborhood games. We had them all the time. Problem is, you are recalling your childhood as a boy. I remember our neighborhood games and no offense to anyone, but the girls were ALWAYS picked last. (Putting that nicely. We usually didn't want them playing - especially my sister and her friends).

I may get excoriated for saying this here, but boys are more naturally athletic. There have been times where I struggled to communicate to the girls as a coach exactly what they were supposed to be doing. Even though the actions came naturally to me, breaking them down and explaining them can be a different matter. People like Howard have helped people like me do this.

Warren, the $20 I make a week really do not put a dent in what I Payne to put my building up. Plus HS, youth and some travel teams have a place to practice in the winter. Believe me I'm not going to give up my day job any time soon. At this rate it would take me 2,000 weeks to pay it off. I guess you're right, I am a hypocrite.

This is not my childhood, its my 18 year old daughter's childhood. There were not many days in the summer that there was not a wiffle ball game going on in my back yard. Plus the best players were girls. Heck 3 of them eventually became key players on our HS team. Do not under estimate the power of Mom and Dad that have taken an interest in their kid's life.

Time I got to the age where I was old enough to appreciate girls my parents had moved us to the country and there was no neighborhood to speak of so I just rode my bike into town and went to the pool.

Before that though those neightborhood baseball games were serious business (until someone broke a window)
