After watching the video of the Texas football incident, I am appalled. Goes.a.long way towards showing how some players have that sense of entitlement that if a call.goes.against them, it ok to blast a.ref in the back and then dive on them.
where does any player get off thinking they can take a shot like that on an official?
there are two players that should never be allowed.on the high school field.again. if they are no longer minors, they will be very lucky to avoid a lawsuit. If they are still minors I'm guessing their school may end up looking at a lawsuit over this.
I never heard, but I certainly hope they refuse was not seriously injured.
Totally unbelievable. Certainly hope this wasn't something brought about by a coach for retribution against a call he didn't like.
looking for more.details about this to come out.

I am guessing you are talking about this. 1st safety spears the ref in the back, 2nd safety follows him in and leads with his helmet while the ref is on the ground.

100% deliberate, the two need not only kicked off the team but expelled.

Disgusting act. They should really dig into this to make sure no coaches were not apart of this because it was obviously a coordinated effort between those 2 kids. My mom and dad would have raced each other to get to me to drag me off that field by the face mask. Officials make mistakes, some are better than others. But there is no excuse for laying a finger on an official let alone going for a knockout. These kids need a year off football and probably a few days suspension from school. I wouldn't go as far to make it a criminal charge, even though this is clearly assault, but if adults were involved I would certainly be in favor of charging them.

Just saw on abc mobile news that both players have been suspended from school/football team and the affected ref wanted to press criminal charges.

Hope this ref wins his case. This is a full out assault. Criminal charges for sure. Make an example out of these 2 POS. Hope they never see a football uniform again. If coaches were involved at all in the decision for this, the same for them.

That was really bad, I just hope the coaches weren't involved. I don't know why, but it would make me feel much better to know it was only the two HS player's idea and not the coaches telling the players to do that. Although, either way it's terrible and looked deliberate. I hope the ref wasn't hurt.

This is as bad or worse than the catcher who intestinally ducked to allow the umpire to get hit, These two goofballs should be banned and charged in court. I hope the High Schoold authorities stand up for the officials on this one!

After further consideration and hearing the ref wanted to press charges, I agree they should be charged with assault. Generally I don't believe in misconduct on the field spilling in to the court room but in this case it was not "in the heat of the moment" at all. This was full blown pre meditated assault.

My only thought is this was probably more than just these 2 who were in the secondary........it is not right, but I will be willing to bet once more comes out - these 2 were just the unfortunate ones who carried it out because of the positions they were playing.....If so, this entire program deserves to be finished!!! I'd hate to see these 2 young men take the blame for something that was discussed among many........We will have to wait & see.....

Same kind of POS-style stupidity but way worse. That ump would have gotten stung. This guy could have been a quadriplegic for the rest of his life.

This is disturbing. Somebody had to put the idea in their otherwise empty heads...

We've all heard talk of players doing something like this to "Teach the ref a lesson". This has to be the boldest example to date.

As a high school official in more than one sport, let me say that you never teach us a lesson. There are safeguards built into official's guidelines in every sport.
The rules of the sport have been in place long before you started playing. Try following them.

Enjoy those five seconds of high-fives back in the huddle. From the coach, and the A.D., and your parents, and the police, it's going to get real ugly real soon.

i'm guessing these two, at the least, will be meeting some new friends soon in the courtroom. one has to wonder how stupid a coach would have to be to instill this thought in a players head....
if it was done and can be proven, the coaches are in for a world of bad times, and deservedly so.

Why does this surprise anyone?
We have kids bringing guns to school and shooting each other! And Guns don?t kill people, people kill people. This is just another example of a total lack of disciple and respect of human life. It?s just a matter of time till some kid reenacts the scene from the movie ?The Last Boy Scout? and pulls a gun and starts shooting players on the field. This is the world we have made and now we have to live in it.

Latest on abc news says that an assistant coach told the players that the ref had to pay for cheating them.
he's been suspended, looking like criminal charges will be filed, & the race card has been played by the 2 h.s. players.
just gets worse every time.ya read about it.....
