Couldn't Believe It!

I witnessed something at an indoor league game last weekend that really had me scratching my head. I am a coach but was there only to spectate and support one of our younger teams.

I noticed that at the end of a half-inning a pitcher take the ball she was pitching with to the bench and hand off to a coach, who then rolled a different ball out to the pitching rubber.
Not ready to assume the worst, I waited until the end of the next half-inning was over and watched the other pitcher leave the ball on the pitching rubber (as most do) only to again see the ball exchanged for another one.

I casually mentioned it to one of our coaches who watched the end of the inning and..sure enough..the swap was made. The opposing coach was confronted and thankfully no huge argument ensued...he didn't think it made a difference but then...why was it being done?

I just found myself scratching my head that anyone, escpecially for indoor softball, would feel the need to gain an advantage.

Oh well...just a "Winter Story"

i saw something last weekend that ive never seen before, my daughter played as a sub for a team playing in an indoor league. not sanctioned, the home plate umpire, who was a coach i believe, apparently had no idea about the size of a batters box, my dd had her back foot on the front of the plate and was told if she were to make contact she would be called out, i saw him make a mark with his foot and made her back up to almost the rear of the box. I thought about asking him if he was aware that the batter had 3 foot from the front of the plate(i think thats correct) but decided against it,,, but we did get a good chuckle out of it though

I know a men's team back east that used to put balls in the microwave to soften them up... No Joke, they really did it, now if it truly affected anything, I am not a scientist....
