Catcher in SW OH looking to catch for pitching lessons

My DD is a catcher that is looking to catch for pitchers during their pitching lessons to get some extra catching work, and for a little extra cash. She is a 16U catcher and is willing to catch a pitcher of any age in the Greater Cincinnati area. She does have transportation, and will be punctual, and she is very mature and responsible. She will charge $10/hour. If you are interested please PM me, call me at 513-550-3761, or e=mail me at gottlieb22898@msn.com.

Thanks,

Jeremy

I'm not trying to start anything, but, with as much money as parents shell out for pitching lessons already, I think most of them would risk a few bruised shins before forking over more money for a catcher.

I do appreciate the assertiveness of your daughter, though. There's nothing better than getting paid for doing something you like doing!

I would think bruised shins would get old fast plus many parents might think their time is worth more then 10 bucks an hour. I know some parents where the mom will not catch so that leaves dad and if he doesn't have the time or can't get to the lesson 10 bucks would be a nice cheap alternative. I would try to put up a flyer at SWBOT or whatever that place is called and Diamond & Dreams, places like that.

I can never for the life of me understand why folks are so critical or feel the need or better yet to take the time to weigh in on something that does not affect them. Louuuuu, I really do appreciate you taking the time to respond...I am just not real sure I understand why you did. I have heard of more than a few girls that do this in there spare time, and with my DD playing travel ball, being in the marching band, and being a 4.0 student she really does not have the time to hold down a regular part time job. I put this out there as an alternative for single moms whose daughters have maybe gotten a little too fast or whose pitches move a little too much for it to continue to be safe to catch them, or maybe a girl who has a dad who travels, etc. I think the point you make for not doing it is one of the best reasons to do it, if a parent is already paying $40 or $50 per hour for instruction, what is another $10 to have a catcher there. Not trying to gouge anyone here, just offering a service while trying to get my DD a little extra catching experience and a little walking around money too. Never ceases to amaze me how people can put a negative spin on something that has no negativity attached it whatsoever.

Too bad you're not in central ohio - I would definitely pay someone to come catch for my DD's lessons (as a mom who cannot catch, and has a husband who travels for work). An experienced catcher would be a great option. Heck, I'd pay her to come catch at my house when she's just practicing.

Why I made a comment? Because I saw a post with no responses ...

It's just a conversation starter. My daughter is playing in college over 2 hours away, so I don't get to catch her any more. I out of the Parent Catching Loop. Maybe people would pay money for a designated catcher, I don't know. 'sounds like it's time for a poll.

I certainly didn't think I was putting a negative spin on things. Just a thought. If I'm wrong, that's on me - not you.

Sorry Louuuu but I took it as a negative spin too which is why I posted in defense of it. I got the message that lessons are expensive why pay for catching too. Sure you didn't mean to take away from a kid trying to earn a few bucks. Being the father of a catcher I know that catching for a pitching lesson is in high demand as she gets requests all the time. I also know that she wasn't allowed to get into pitching as a youngster because her parents didn't want to be her catcher. lol

Okay, so it looks like I'm starting something after all.

Again: If the girl can make some extra money doing this, then I'm all for it.

However, two points: A.) I have machine operators working for me with 5 years experience who don't make $10/hour.
- and B.) Pitching lessons are what? $35-$40 per hour (and more) So instead of spending $160-ish a month, you're now at $200 a month, + gas, etc... In my part of Ohio, that's substantial.

Hawks, there's no need to keep this discussion up OFC, so can you PM me in about a month to let me know how this effort worked out? If there is a market for hired catchers, I'd like to know. (You're never too old to learn something, right?)

I enjoy catching my DD, but sometimes my work schedule gets in the way, so I will keep her contact info handy and $10 seems more than fair.

Why you being such a jerk about a CHILD trying to earn some money? What business is it of yours anyway?? Kid is trying to make an honest dollar and that bothers you why?? If you aren't interested just move on and keep your mouth shut. Ten bucks is cheap. She will have travel expense and time getting to and from the lesson. Geeezzz.

Glad your proud you don't pay a decent wage.

Man, I really did not mean to start a fire storm. MY DD catches her TB teammates and HS teammates all the time. In fact, I would not allow her to charge them. In this instance we would really be operating at a point where we really just about break even using my gas to get her there, but as a father and her coach I am willing to do that for her so she learns some responsibility, gets some more catching experience out of it, and who knows might pick up a reference or two she can use on a job application down the road. Last time I checked we are supposed to be a capitalistic society so she is offering her services for a wage and it is up to the people who can benefit from them to decide if it is worth it. Really was not trying to get rich and be a father like the Williams sisters dad who gravy trains off their every move. Just wanted the kid to earn a few bucks...Geez!

Thanks for the kind words mustohiofp and JEMIII

What worked for my daughters in the past was receiving batting tokens in trade for the pitching work out. We would usually work through a pitching coach affiliated with a batting cage facility who was tired of being pounded by the high school, or college pitchers. It saved the coaches, allowed them to concentrate on their pitchers' form, ultimately gave us plenty of catcher experience, and batting tokens to boot. It was a great trade seing the variety for sure. Good luck!

It looks like Musty has a personal issue with somebody.

Yea, with bullies. You have a kid trying to make a buck providing a needed service at a reasonable rate yet this "adult" is trying to sabotage it. Pathetic and sad.

I give her two thumbs up for entrepreneurial spirit!!! Kids who think outside the box, identify needs and act on them are the kids who are successful as adults.

You're kidding, right?

The opening statement was "My daughter will catch for $10 an hour". And my thoughts were "Really? There's a market for that?"

So now I'm bully-ing and trying to sabotage an effort to make a buck...

Nice interpretation.

Louuuuu, I think the consensus was the way your reply read was that you took exception to it. It is all good, you apparently would not pay for it while others might. We shall see what we see.

Maybe because I cherished every softball moment with my daughter - I couldn't imagine paying someone else...

Anyhoo, let's take a scientific approach - for curiosity's sake. I'll start a poll on another thread so see if people pay, or would pay - for catchers.

(once again - Hawks, Musty, etc... - if you can make a buck doing this, go for it!)

Not to stir things up any more than they already are......but......why should the pitcher pay the catcher, when both pitcher and catcher are doing it to better their game?

That being said, if any kid can find a way to make money doing something they like, I support them 100%. Therefore, if any catchers out there wish to better their game, I will have my DD pitch to them for only $9.00/hour. Pleae send PM. :)
