Buckeye Heat 16U-Gianas finished runner-up in the Consolation Bracket. Scores are what I'm going off of memory...........

BH-4
New Lennox Lightning (Ill.)-0

BH-6
Cincy Tribe-2

Consolation Championship Game
BH-0
Metro Express (Pittsburgh)-3

Great showing after a slow start. Not bad for a 15U team with one pitcher eligible for 14U in a very tough tournament..............

I had the chance to see the championship game in 16u at compuware between Ohio Classics and the Wolfpack it was a unbelieveable game. The wolfpack with awesome talent and the Classics w/ thier never say die attitude. From one spectator to you ladies thanks for let my family watch what competitive softball is suppost to look like. You can't do this game just w/ words. The girls, coaches and parents from the classics should be very proud of your organization. How is your centerfielder doing.(the one that was hurt at 1st)
Classics with a weekend filled w college coaches I'm sure they saw what you can offer them!!!!!

I only got a few chances to see the Classics play last year. With Beckham at the reins, they are impressive to watch and their attitudes have always been "never die" Great job, Klopfer!

Heidi has an MRI Wednesday. The xrays were negative but there was some swelling so they weren't sure. We'll know more on Friday. Keep her in your prayers. She is a great kid with a very solid future.

Thanx bkdoor - yes this team is very special.

chaos13 do you know where the Indy Diamond Chix 12U or the Lasers Silver 12U ended up? I have not seen the total results yet.

Rich,

Diamond Chix 12u surprisingly lost their first elimination game and were thrust into the consolation bracket, and there is no way back to the championship flight from there the way this was set up at 12's, but at least you were not done for the day, more ball to play to get your hotel's worth I suppose?? The Chix looked like they were taking it out on a few teams after that although I am not sure if they won the consolation bracket or not.

Silver ran into a buzz saw with the Indy Dreams. The Dreams were lights out steller and beat the Silver, not totally surprising, they are a heckuva club. Somehow the Dreams went numb until last inning against Indiana Thunder in their next game in semi's though and lost 4-2. Not taking ANYTHING away from Thunder (another very good club), just that Dreams looked "unbeatable" versus Silver. Thunder held the Dreams scoreless until the 7th when they scored 2 and had the tying runs on base with the final out being a screamer that the Thunder SS pulled out of the the air to end it, to move on to the 12u championship. When the Dreams are "awake" they put a hitting line-up out there that is as good as I have seen this year, including several who can go yard, and they are a superb fielding team (and good guys coaching).

On Saturday, I watched the Slammers barely escape with a tie versus the "younger" Dreams, while Silver tied the Chix. Still can't believe the Chix went down so early, or the younger Dreams challenged the Slammers, or Silver went down they way they did versus older Dreams - guess ... "that is why they play the games."

Then of course Slammers put 12u to bed by laying the wood to Thunder, in the championship game.

Pickle - very accurate. ?Not to take anything anyway from a scrappy young Indy Dreams team but Friday was one of "those days" for the Slammers. ?Not sure if it was too long a day on Thursday with travel and gettting settled in, the hot sun and not enough sense to stay in the shade and rest on Friday, or just one of those games.

The Dreams were ready to rock, wanted it more, and came out and played a great game. ?They seem well coached and were fundamentally solid. ?They made the plays including a few fantastics grabs by their center fielder (what a stud!) that could've changed the game while the Slammers looked more like the 11U team. ?Definitley the makings for an upset and the Slammers were fortunate to escape with the tie to preserve #1 in the pool.

Saturday-Sunday were a different story.... ?outscoring opponents 42-5

pickeldad and chaos thanks for the information. I was curious about the teams mentioned because I thought they would be there at the end.

Our 12U team played both the Indy Thunder and the Dreams earlier this year and I know that they are good teams. Not surprised with the Thunders finish.

I am a firm believer that whenever two good tams line up anything can happen. Been around too long to assume anything is a given at any level.

We will see the Diamond Chix again this weekend and I am sure that they will be ready to rock. I don't think we see the Lasers Silver team until Stingrays however.

Again thanks for the update and good luck this weekend.

Chaos, I hung around on Sunday to watch the 12's play out. I would agree that the Slammers impressively packed it back together right on time. Very impressive run on Sunday, and great consistency. Yeah, that CF on Friday for the young Dreams was phenominal(!!), especially the back-to-back plays she made (one diving), which you referred to.

Rich, ah the mysteries of 12 year olds ... unless of course you practice 6 days a week (that's for you Chaos, LOL, respectfully though :) ). Chix stumbled early in their first elim, but beat the next team something like 17-1, and won at least one more handily I believe? You should get their full attention this weekend, for better or worse, LOL. It's funny talking with Thunder people, and the Dreams and some others, and listening to them wonder aloud about which team will show up. I could go on all day about that though, I can think of a certain 12u team that was one hit away from beating the 14u Valley Extreme in a 14u championship game a few weeks back (V.Extreme has won EVERY tourney in 2007), and same 12u owns a win over the D1 State Champs, but stumbles around sometimes in their own age group. I am sure both the Chix and Dreams are scratching their heads also. Go figure - life's many day to day mysteries ....

pickledad, thanks for the informative posts on a great tournament. You always seem to give an honest and unbiased opinion on what you see. Keep up the good work and I'll most likely run into you at NSA "A" states down at Tealtown next week. Maybe we can BS some softball like last year down at NSA Nats :) :) :)

Thanks Bink, likewise, ... just love the game ... like you. Sometimes I am just amazed and humbled at what these kids can do. Hard to completely take the silver (or orange) lens off the viewfinder all the time though, right? - but, we try to give credit where due. Keep the reports coming in your travels around the globe also. Hope Dakota is having a great summer on the felds this year!

A team has to show up in every game when they are playing in a tournament like Compuware.
The team I am affiliated with at 12U is the Valley Extreme Red. We played our best game of the year against the older Indy Dreams team and beat them 7 to 0. We also played very well against the younger Indy Dreams team (which tied Slammers) and beat them by a score of 9 to 0. When we played the Slammers in the semi's, they beat us badly by a score of 11 to 2. The first time we played Slammers in May, we lost 4 to 3 in ITB. That is why the game must be played. Anything can happen in a tournament where almost all the teams are well coached and talented.

If you are not trying to take anything from them why make excuses at all. They had to travel probably just as far and had the same sun shining above their heads just like your team. Anything can happen to any team on any given day, they still are human and prone to errors and mistakes. I think that the compliments you gave them were nice but you could have done without the excuses.JMHO
