OK, this is a bit long, so bear with me... Setting the Scene:
Aug 2010-- DD a Senior, decides to go and play the evil sport she played all up through Middle School. Concentrated only Softball since. We parents said if you want to, do it and everything else you want Senior year. Coach tells not only her, but also the MRS. "oh man we are so glad she came out as we didn't have a goalie and she is it"
usually if your kid says it you blow it off, but he did tell my wife as well...
Sept--- Coach/ Parent meeting--- He states how accessible and approachable to the girls, parents etc...
Season proceeds and she gets zero playing time until 2 blowouts and gets in second half of each. In these blowouts up by ten, he still wants them attacking and scoring... She's Not even starting in non conference weaker team games. Not even getting warm up time before games in net. Other parents asking why aren't you saying anything? Not for us to say, her bed she made when she decided to play so she can.. She has not missed one practice or any event for this sport. Sitting listening and observing this clown is so funny to watch what they call coaching... (more further below on this part)
Fast forward to three weeks ago and the discussion of Powder Puff Football game Homecoming week. Coach had no rules before the season now states JV can and No Varsity can play in it, or you will be kicked off the team. ( Um coach, who died and made you Obama on something that doesn't pertain to ******?) He's afraid you could get hurt or something. (this coming from a guy who thinks the girls doing throw ins should do a hand spring flip with the ball to get it further) If it were that good a play, don't you think MSL would be using it???
DD approaches Mr. Approachable and right out of the box she says Powderpuff and immediately NO! comes out of his mouth. Hmmm Sounds very approachable to me... She sticks her course and rattles off a whole list of items of why they should be able to and eventually he says I'll get back with you...
We asked her last week do you regret putting in all of the time and effort to sit? she stated "No, I regret being played by the coach" "But I've made great friendships which means more over time than what he can do to me."
Last night--- Powderpuff Gamenight (a school sponsored Homecoming Week Event) and evil sport has practice right before... (Mr I'll get back to you) tells the ladies, Getting back to them 1 hr before the game doesn't cut it Skippy... "I know what tonight is and no one is playing," then decides to address my DD in front of the whole team specifically which in itself is a form of Harassment, but won't go there.
Game time she is there playing has the widest smile on her face in months and doesn't give a rats tail on his thought, as his non school evil sport team is 200 yards away practicing. Oh coaches can do the same season in season, but kids cant even do another sport????? She catches a long pass and name is announced over PA and everyone who knows the situation yells "He Knows Now!!!" The announcer for the game last night was one of the evil sport parents who knows how skrewed over she was and made sure to announce it loud for him to hear.
He ends up on the sideline watching the game and we will see what 3:30 today brings. If he decides to harass her by punishing her and single her out for playing, we told her to pick up the phone and tell him we aren't having this discussion now. My Mom, Dad and the AD will have it with you. She received over 2 dozen messages last night from her teammates stating they wished they had the nerve to do it and some of the other Seniors won't have that opportunity and regret it. For Heaven's sake, THEY ARE ONLY KIDS ONCE!!!!
OK here's the (more Further from above)---- Being a Certified Youth Sports Coaching Class Proctor, I not only watch games, but events within a game, like how do Parents act, referees, umpires and most of all the coaches... Coaches are there to teach, support mentor and motivate in youth sports. YES HIGH SCHOOL SPORTS ARE YOUTH SPORTS!! With the video camera I have specifically watching and filming only one thing, substitutions and picked up on something on how a non motivator he is. I film both teams subbings during the last 3 weeks and other teams will high five the ladies, talk to them, show them something, this one I swear out of about 100 subbings maybe 7 high fives, otherwise the ladies walk right past him without even a glance at them. Hearing many parents who's kids have played with this guy for years say how much of an ARse this guy is is. It's unreal, girls that have loved the sport want to hang it up because of him. One friend I've known for years who would never say anything bad about anyone, calls him a waste of a human being, as his kid who plays regularly hates him so much.
Now I ask what do the Principals and AD's who come to games watch? Do they watch the game, or the Process inside the game as they evaluate their coaches??
Coaches you do not own our kids, you have the privilege to coach them, nothing more. As far as getting hurt, you can get hurt playing BB on driveway, a heel stepped on your foot at the Homecoming Dance, or as what happened last year a girl got pregnant during the year around Homecoming time. So you do not get to say what our kids can and cannot do outside of the rules of OHSAA.
Her thoughts before playing---Whats he going to do that he hasn't done already? Bench her, OOPS she's there already, kick her off the team? Oh darn she won't get a Chevron for her sleeve for a Jacket that will sit in the closet forever after June....... She says she can't wait for softball to be able to be yelled at by a coach in a good way to get motivated by him...
Yeah as you can surmise, I don't like the guy and we as parents have not said anything to him yet, but As we have no kids past this one that repercussions could happen to, will not hold back at what I hear are going to be player parent exit interviews with video in hand and have told other parents to give us their notes we'll tell him, hopefully we can make the next kids adventure more enjoyable.. We have had many a school sport season with 4 kids and this one by far is the worst.
As I sit here I can say She Made the right decision by standing up for what she believed in last night and can't wait until 3:30
If you made it reading this far God Bless you and Thanks!
