I no longer have to deal with this with my DD thank god, but the girls on my team does. Looks like nothings changed, a whole lot of politics, booster club contributing, and other things besides ability determining some teams.

Sounds like you are in the wrong school district.

Liz, 11th, 3rd yr on varsity

We both can't wait for summer & are shocked & sad that 4 good freshman were relagated to the jv in favor of upperclassmen with a lot less skill & dedication. Some things never change. :(

As you can see from the post of Warriors21, there indeed are HS teams that continue to make decisions based on factors other than the skill of the players. Warriors21 and his kid have no axe to grind, since she is on the varsity. I trust their assessment of the freshmen who were passed over. This stuff happens all the time, unfortunately.

Daughter made Varsity. Mostly happy, but this team is nothing compared to her summer team.

Unfortunately, I, like many other OFC'ers, can't name our high school because of the possible consequences of us saying that we're anything less than "ecstatic".....

Well my daughter is only an 8th grader but we do have 7 freshman on our team this year. These 8 players (including my daughter) have played together for 3 years and have worked very hard to improve year after year. I am very proud to say that 5 of these 7 freshman have made Varisty for their respected schools. The other 2 will be playing JV. These 7 players are divided between 2 schools. Just goes to show that hard work does pay off. Congrats to all of you.

My dd is a sophomore throws 53mph with 15rps and they gave a spot on the varsity team to a freahmen that was hurt and only picthed 2 days during tryout .......Talking about politics

How is that politics Karen?

Being passed over in favor of a freshman seems to contradict what others on this thread are saying are "political" moves by a coach.

Just curious...

And someone else stole my next comment....if you don't like the school, why stay there?

I have heard of several TB players that have been put on JV for lesser committed and or talented players to the sport. In some cases is was PC older before younger players, but there are some mysteries too. I am fortunate that my DD made varsity but I am frustrated for some of these other kids.

I hope all these kids that were passed over light a fire and show all what they are made of each game. See you all in a few months!

So how does the freshman pitch when she isn't hurt? If she is good, and the coaches know that, it shouldn't be a surprise.

you would understand if you seen some of the other girl durning tryout ...but thats fine my dd will play JV and show them all what they pass up and she will continue to work hard on her pitching and batting and fielding.

Parents at tryouts?, what are parents doing at tryouts?....LMAO

You yourself said the other girl was hurt, so again, it shouldn't be surprising that she wasn't at her best. And if she was hurt, it might not have been a good idea for her to be pitching at all, depending on what her injury was.

Parents normally don't go anywhere near tryouts or practice for that matter. Did the other one throw 54 during her two days? You need to be faster than that or they will get rocked against the better schools.

we have 7th grader throwing 52 53 and her 8th grade sister 63 mph so 53 is by no means blistering but with right movement could be ok but very hard to say without seeing both pitch but good luck and as others said let it light a fire under her and work twice as hard to prove them wrong
