For many of the concerns about individual parks, Terry from Rotary is ahead of the game. Someone mentioned about at least 1 family overly concerned with Covid and it may end up being a couple. That's all it takes to start having teams drop in May and June. Terry has sent out some information and questions about each team's and parents concerns and how or what if can be done. I thank Terry for being proactive. Unless the social distancing is erased or relaxed to over 500 to 1000, it doesn't seem viable at park's that have 4 or more fields.

You got 2 teams playing, 2 teams arriving/warming up, you got 2 teams packing up to move to another field. That's at least 70 players plus 70 single parents per field per game mingling around. Not to mention the siblings and grandparents. The concession areas, restrooms and the entrance/exit areas are all problems to deal with. We can all say, let's be adults and social distance but you know it will be basically impossible to police at a park with 8 fields going at once. Spectators in the OF is one solution but that's also the only real warmup areas, you already see problem parents or balls thrown in error causing problems. I hope we play but there are alot of concerns that aren't always so obvious.

Btw.....no way schools go back. Impossible to social distance at most public HS plus admin, clean and sanitize and regroup for the following day. First to close, last to open

Possible idea to have a tournament over 4 days . 1/2 the teams play Thurs/Friday ...the other 1/2 play Sat/Sun ....Every team just play 5 games no bracket .....Thursday play 2 games , Friday play 3 games .......Sat play 3 games , Sun 2 games.....This cuts the amount of teams in 1/2 ....it also reduces the need to pay for hotel 3 nights ...

No, not a good sign at all. Especially since that isn't until July.

I think if tournaments start cancelling already, we are hurting the kids more than we think we are keeping them safe. This comes down to the TDs just thinking of themselves and covering their behinds! Kids are low risk for being affected by covid19 but high risk for the mental effects.. very sad.

OSU just shut their campus down till July 13th and I just heard from a very reliable source Stingrays Showcase is cancelled for this year.

this damn virus has got to go!

Agreed. If all of the "big" tournaments cancel then all of the smaller ones will follow. Yes, this virus has to go. I feel bad for the H.S. kids, but i'm not there yet, I know my DD will be crushed if the summer is cancelled. There is only so much practice she can take, lol.

I agree to a point. Problem is let’s just say they lift the Stay at Home order but the social distancing is still in place. Softball can’t be played at that point. I think TDs are realizing this is the right thing to do because it would ALL have to be lifted for our athletes to be on the diamonds.

not necessarily, I think now is too early to make any of those decisions. I think when restrictions start to be lifted, "social distancing" will have to be less restrictive also. I think the main concern would be mass gatherings.

If the summer season shifts to later as some have suggested (and per the USSSA statement), they aren't going to be able to have 3-4 day tournaments in August. More and more schools are starting to go back early August. I know a couple of SE Indiana schools (and some KY) go back the first week of August. (of course this is assuming the school ban is lifted by then)

Ok, I'll bite at this one...How is cancelling tournaments "hurting the kids more than keeping them safe"?

Also, I disagree with the statement that "Kids are at a low risk for being affected by covid 19..." Kids are getting sick. They are just at a lower risk of being hospitalized from it. What are these "...high risk for mental effects."? Being upset from not playing? Stressed about mom/dad losing their jobs during all of this? Worried about that college coach not seeing them play and giving them a scholarship (which I am hearing a lot of fearful stories about how this will impact college sports going forward, but that is another topic)?

Not trying to bust your chops, just wondering what you mean by your comments.
