There has to be more than these three early verbals. To hear people talk, if you haven't verbaled by now and your an '09 grad your late in the process. Any thoughts on where an '09 graduate should be? Is it important to wait until after July 1 to commit?

09 Graduate and your'e late in the process???????

I still think there's at leat 4 more ACT chances and SAT as well, so no, you are not late in the process... The higher you do on those, the better your chances are.

There are many coaches that will be looking at the ladies all summer long.... Why bother playing in the summer if it's too late? Saw it last year first hand at many tournaments where the coaches were talking/courting girls that were being Seniors this year and they worked out fine from D-1, D-2, D-3 to NAIA schools....

Don't jump too fast ladies unless you are sure and Congratulations to those that have made that hard choice.....

There are a number of coaches that I know who have gotten a few or all of their 09 verbals but remember that some teams may only need 2 or 3 players so it's easy to reload. Many girls have been on watch lists since playing at 14U and if a coach sees advanced skills during their first year at 16U then sometimes they feel they don't need to look again during their second year at 16U if they feel they know what they are getting in that recruit. If a girl is an exceptional talent then it's snooze you lose in getting that early verbal.

Not to take away from Coach Beckham's post and Jamie Wolf's post on JJHuddle. I am more then overwhelmed with these 2 committments. Both these girls have been players since I started with Classics many years ago. Both girls work so hard and greatly deserve Their decisions.

Congratulations to Kelly and Kaitlin and the Classics Organization!!! Two very deserving players!!! Great Job Girls!!!

Kelly Trace - Bishop Hartley and Ohio Classics, Black 1st base/lefty power hitter has committed to Gannon (D2)

Kaitlin Klopfer - Liberty Union and Ohio Classics, Black P/3rd/ power hitter has committed to Charleston (D2)

This is awesome..

The original post was about 2009 early verbals. Are the players mentioned in the later posts 2009 or 2008 graduates? I felt pretty good after hearing Hilliards response, but the concensus seems to be 2009's are committing now and schools are moving on 2010. If the later posts are 2008 grads, then I would feel a lot of 2009 grads that have not committed yet are on schedule.

You are correct Copper. the 2 girls I listed are 2008 Fall. Sorry to jump the post. Not to take anything away from the girls. They are very deserving though for their 2008 committment. Thank you for catching that.

I think it's great to hear about players and their future committments. It's also nice to see the people that have been with them and support them posting their accomplishments. I was just curious on the graduation year because my DD is in the midst of decision making and wondering if she should wait or commit. She is a 2009 grad and has a "full ride" (academic/athletic) offer from a D1 school. There has been a lot of interest from other D1's but nothing concrete. We can only do so many unoffical visits with her other activities and with the high school season firing up her schedule gets tighter. I figure recruiting will slow down somewhat with the college seasons starting also. That's why I wonder how important the July 1st date will become when coaches can call and contact. Commit or Wait? I always thought this would be a fun time in her life but actually it's very nerve racking.

Whether to commit or not should be determined based on whether the school is right for your daughter.

My daughter has also has the chance to commit early. She likes the school and the coach, but there is another school that she fell in love with. That coach will not be ready to offer until this summer. If this school were to offer her a scholarship now, she would take it right away. Since they are not offering now, we are waiting to decide.

Good Luck.

Sometimes I 'd like to have my 13U committed.... not to college though.. or maybe that was me that needs to be committed!

I was under the impression that college offers couldn't be made to a player until after completion of their junior year in high school. If that is true then how do these 2009 grads have offers to commit to? Just curious.

There is no restriction on a college offering prior to completing the junior year as long as you are doing the contacting, not them. You just are not signing the letter until the backside of your junior year.

I'm still not sure that's correct. Copper's post made me curious how his DD had "a full D1 ride academic/athletic scholarship offer" as a junior in high school. Have schools already approved academic scholarships for students a year and a half in advance? I also don't believe you would already be cleared through the NCAA Clearing house yet without your junior year grades being submitted. It just raised some questions in my mind, thats all.

I agree, following the rules, no contact should be made by a college coach until after their Junior year, so how could an offer have been made?

The speed limits 55 mph, but I see people driving 70 mph. Anythings possible if you don't get caught. Just because there are rules, we know not everyone is following them.

JR,
it can happen as long as the individual can catch the coach on campus and then she can talk all they want while on campus and not during a dead period. Even a D1 coach that had a clinic was telling us why would a freshman or sophomore ever do that, as to who has any idea what will be taking place in your life 2 years from now. Will the coach you talked to even be there?

But as long as you talk to them on their Campus and they do not contact you off campus it's allowed.

Many of the big schools do this (take early verbals). I think it will be something that's stopped eventually, but I don't think any are breaking rules. There are situations in which the coaches can talk to the girls juniors and younger - they just can't initiate the contact.

Observer ....
You are correct. NOT all of those items have been done. Ex. Clearing House, FASFA, ACT, SAT, etc. You can not sign until after your Junior year. Also NO school can offer you anything unless you are physically on school property and YOU set up the "un-official" visit.

Any player CAN verbal at ANYTIME. You have to remember a VERBAL is just that. The Student/Athlete is "verballing" they will attend "SCHOOL XYZ" and that "SCHOOL XYZ" is "verballing to give them an education with possible $$$ attached to it. Either "School XYZ or Student/Athlete" CAN back out of that agreement at ANYTIME prior to an "Official Signing".

My DD is in the class of 2010, and she has verballed to Ohio State, Texas, Tennessee, and Arizona, as well as a few others. ?::) We have read in previous posts that several girls from the Slammers are being looked at by major D1 schools and they are mostly under the age of 13.

Verbal is just that, "Verbal" and until it is signed on the dotted line, it means nothing.
