Early Verbals Class of 2009

Well, it means something. But coaches leave and girls change their minds. I think most coaches (and girls) make these offers in good faith. Though I don't think girls should burn all their other bridges until signing.

It's worse in other sports - haven't they had big D1 schools verballing with 7th basketball players (boys)?

Like I said in a different post, until the letter of intent is signed and received by the college it is only a handshake deal and either party can walk away from it.

Knight,Why don't you believe that someoene can verbal early? I never heard on this board of any coach not following through with a verbal. Early verbals happen all the time.

Has anyone experienced a coach backing out of a verbal comittment?

Now Shayne....

I would not go that far, to say it means nothing! ?::)

To the rest of the people that posted and didn't understand the rules and regulations ?:-X .....

I think the biggest thing people (OFC readers) need to take out of my orignal post is this.....I was very excited ? ;D ?to hear that these girls have been in "negotiations" with different D1 - NAIA schools (doesn't really matter what level). They made a decision (sometime a tough one, when you are 17/18 years old), but they made the decision, with family help, I'm sure, but they did what was "best" for "them"(individually) and their families. They (the girls) are not bragging or boasting. They might not even know I posted information about them on hear. Soooooo.....

I was just trying to inform the "softball community" that 4 Ohio girls (class of 09) have verballed to D1 schools. I wanted to start the post to see how many others have signed early as well. It is a great thing when schools come knocking and are interested in your players. So naturally, as a coach, I was very happy ? :) ?to find out the exciting news. I have known for awhile, but families are sometimes embarresed because their daughter has been recruited and others off the team have not. These girls deserve any and all the recognition they can get, along with ANY other girl that signs early, on-time, or late. I guess it doesn't really matter when you sign the dotted line.... now does it?

Just about EVERYONE, at some point or another, on this site "brags" about how "GREAT" ?::) ?there players, or kids are. It's easy when you hide behind screen names. It also easy to type crap, slander, and anyother "misleading information" about players, coaches, teams, and organizations. Sometimes it might be warranted, so if you feel that way, sign your name, at the bottom of your statements, otherwise.....Don't type stuff to just stir the pot!

I'm trying to not come across as bragging, I'm trying very hard to just state facts...As you can see by the (4) four girls going to school! ?As a coach, you want to share it with others. I guess some may call that bragging, well maybe so, but I call it Hardwork, dedication, talent, tears, friendships, pride, class, winning, losing, fundamentals, and having a vision, and everything else that goes into making a player and the team(s) she has played for along her long journey to becoming a young adult and a possible college scholarship!

This post has nothing to do about promoting the "Wolfpack Organization"..... It's not about me or my coaches. It is about THEM and the girls that play the game! Please don't read anything more into my post than what I am saying.

It's about ANDREA ARNEY, LAUREN BALODIS, COURTNEY NICHOLSON, and PAIGE BERGER and ANY OTHER GIRL IN OHIO that ends up playing at the next level.

THAT WAS WHAT THIS POST WAS TO BE ABOUT!!!

It was not to discuss who is better, It was not to be about who has more players signed or verballed. So to everyone else on here that doesn't "THINK" it can happen.....Do your homework and educate yourself and educate your parents, players, fans, etc. that "DREAMS" do come true, just depends on how bad you want to work for them!!! A scholarship WILL NOT just be handed to players...They have to EARN it! ?;)

As a softball community we need to rally behind ALL the girls, not just the ones that play for "your" organization or my organization, we should ALL be happy for every girl that plays Softball and her success!

With that being said, NOT EVERY GIRL will get that chance to receive a scholarship, or even play at the next level, so be kind, be happy, be supportive to ALL the girls, NOT just the Best/ Good ones. Every athlete has a role....They just have to find out what their role is and then decide if they want to accept that role or try to do something to improve themselves to extend their role.....

EVERY person that is involved in summer softball should be thrilled when an OHIO girl is recruited to play softball in college. STOP , whinning, stop bitching, stop being jealous of other kids, if your kid makes it to college.......I hope I am one of the first to say "Congratulations" weather I know your kid or not. So instead of getting on a computer, and hiding behind screen names, if you have something nice to say...Say it! Otherwise start your own post about "HOW do I get my kid recruited?"

That way I wouldn't have to post on your thread about why is the saftey base orange...... Please post only things that have to do with verbals in the (09) class!

If I offended someone............ :-/

Congratultions to the girls - they do have a lot to be proud of.

But your last post, wolfpack_99, makes me dizzy :)

The subject of early signing is a little shrouded in secrecy and it's not surprising people want to discuss it.

We have heard that UCLA and some of the other leading schools out west already have all their players with verbal commitments through the Class of 2010. They are looking at 2011.

I think it is great when the girls are ready to make their decision. Education is an important part of their life.

I just don't know whether I would want a lot of people to know that I had verballed so early--just in case something fell through or they changed their mind.

Well, they do occasionally fall through. There was a girl recently that was highlighted on spysoftball because she thought she was all set and the the verbal fell through (I think the coach she dealt with moved on, and the new coach wasn't as interested) kind of at the last minute.

I just hope the schools end up being a good fit when the kid gets there - mine aren't/weren't settled on what school they wanted to go to until their senior year, athletics notwithstanding. Those sophomore and junior years are years of change for most teens.

Thanks, this was a tough decision for her. She had it down to two great schools/coaches. In the end distance won! We met this team, a nice girl from Lex was happy to see a girl coming in from "home"!

Wow, that was certainly a revival of a very old thread. Congrats on the decision. Class of 2010 or 2009?
