Ego or just plain mean?

DD, who has been a reliable pitcher all season, gave up 4 earned runs in one inning to a Canadian team last weekend. We're talkin' lasers into the outfield, to the fence...believe me, that made her hurt regardless of what was being said in the coaches box. (they were very, very polite Canadians) and it still hurt!

Most of them from 'up north' are but we sure did run into one of their dark side teams in early June. Just running their mouths, dirty plays and even during the championship game their one girl (whom should of been kicked out earlier) was tossed. Afterwords during hand shaking their coach was taking jabs at the girls.

Just one of those things I guess.

Well I think that if you are from a reputable organization and winning there's no need for such nonsense. But I guess there's those types of d$$$$'s everywhere.

That doesn't sound like something that would get my feathers ruffled. I say "come on, let's get mean" alot and I really don't want them to be mean to other people, it's just a saying to get them pumped up. I think people tend to get really sensitive when they are losing and can take things out of context. There are some tools out there who do offer up the occasional tasteless comment but I think for the most part it is blown out of proportion.

I agree with Fairman, the girls have to play their game. If they outmatch or are outmatched by an opponent, the best thing to do is get it over as quickly as possible.

I don't think I would get my feathers ruffled either. I would be to concerned about why I was getting my kicked. Hate when that happens.

To me that comment is nothing to get upset about. Ive heard worse. He was probably trying to pump his kids up. Don't see the big deal with it? Are we so sensitive that a simple comment like that is turned into a big deal? I understand it may not have sounded good at the time, but it really doesn't sound that bad to me? Just my opinion....

Sounding bad at the time is what does matter..hits you right in the gut and you know you dont like it but have to deal with it...I agree we become to sensitive but lets make it hurt? really? cant come up with better cliches so not to even have the thought of being viewed as a nasty coach...and remember they are just kids and girls...and guys we all know what girls grow up to be....vicious.....

You hear this statement ALL the time...

Defensive team drops a routine fly ball for the 3rd out of the inning... girl lets a pass ball get to the fence on a drop third strike... etc. etc. etc. etc....

I can't count how many times I have heard a coach, player, fan, etc. say.. "Hey, lets make that hurt."

Is this a younger team? Maybe as the team gets older they will understand that this is a simple statement...

The other team makes a mistake... "Hey, lets make that hurt!!!"

that's a good way to explain that statement.

Is this classless...yes! But I believe the majority of coaches as well as fans get "caught-up" in the moment and the things that exit the mouths are not intended to be how they came out. Myself I'd like to think that a coach is putting a lot of time and heart into thier teams and at the end of the day they love the kids as players and push thier players to remain being aggressive. Could of been worded differently but I dont believe any disrespect was intended. I'd like to believe that all coaches realize even though this player is not on your team she still is someones daughter. If the intent was malicious then consider yourself lucky that your daughter does not play for him/her, and use it as a lesson for yourself as well as your player not to be disrespectful ......morale: learn from others mistakes and most of all don't allow one person to ruin your day with your daughter and her team.... win, or loose :D

One team down something like 8-0. The opposing team is up to bat. The first base coach is saying stuff like.."Come on...let's make it hurt".
So is that ego or just plain being mean? 16U teams...and a team from a nice organization.
I wasn't there and didn't hear it but heard from a couple of other parents. Just seems plain mean to me.

**** it up Marla and don't be so sensitive. It's just a game and they're just words. We want our kids to be aggressive in this game. Young ladies by nature are very "forgiving" and it's hard to get them mentally tough, preparing them for the times when you can't afford a mental lapse in judgement. They can humble themselves in the process but a coach trying to fire them up is going to need to say something of the same message to get them to keep working on their game. If not, many will lay down and some will lose games like you are describing.

8 runs is never enough if the other team is capable of scoring 9.
