I'll bet the berths are coming from Ohio ASA since they absorbed the Cleveland Metro area. Ohio ASA has 5 berths this year and they're only awarding 4 of them at their State Championship.

I noticed something interesting in the OP - Participants are eligible to attend ASA Eastern "A" Nationals. Does that apply to all entrants registered in Ohio ASA?

Attached is feedback from Steve Meilinger ? he?s run the tournament for years and has an excellent relationship with Warren .

Cleveland Metro still exists but not as a stand alone. We are part of the Ohio ASA. Last year ASA rolled all the Ohio districts under one umbrella with Warren Jones as the head.

For Eastern?s - Any team that is registered in the Ohio ASA is eligible.

I'd have to once again go over the ASA Code but I'm pretty sure that once you participate in "championship play" at the A level (and remember, that is defined to include playing in a qualifier, whether or not your team wins), you cannot drop down to the B level for championship play.
