FIELDING HITTING: Game of Pepper
The game of pepper has been around for as long as I can remember. Just in case there is someone who has not played it, or just don't remember it. It is done something like this.

There is a hitter, and one or usually more fielders. The fielders stand in a line about arms length apart and about six to eight feet away facing the hitter. One of the fielders tosses the ball to the hitter. The hitter then hits the ball usually on the ground to one of the fielders. The fielder that catches the ball then tosses the ball back to the hitter again. The hitter then hits to another fielder. The idea is for the hitter to move the ball around so that all the fielders are involved. After the hitter has hit for a while , the hitter will then change places with one of the fielders. This continues until every one has hit.

This is a good drill to use indoors or outside. I have used it in practices and it is really good for warming up before a game. It gets the batter to keep their eye on the ball by having to adjust to where the ball is tossed. It works their bat control because they have to move the ball around. It is also good for the fielders too. Since they are not to far away from the hitter, they have to keep their eye on the ball. It is a good warm up for the muscles they will be using in the game. They have to bend their knees to field the ball. It will also help to loosen up their back.

This is not a new drill, but it is a good drill. It is just another little idea to keep things from getting boring. To many times practices consist of the same thing. Playing catch, and hitting a few balls. Then the fielder chat while they shag balls.

I played that for many years when I was younger and it works... It is like a Lost Art that many can not teach now days....... Banned from ball parks for wearing out the grounds to even players not practicing in a safe areas. This drill falls in the time area catagory of Hot Box and Monkey Move Up! All Great Drills that (need to make a big come back) on the practice fields!
