This is Tess' senior year at UGA. The pro softball league holds its draft now, rather than wait until after the end of the college year or WCWS.

Hope she finds a real job... no one has stated the league is only 4 teams (yes only 4 teams) and she will only make about 5k a year. Congrats on the accomplishment but we do have some fabulous baseball players currently in the minors and pro baseball representing Ohio that include Anthony Gallas (Strongsville/Kent State/Indians), Alex Lavisky (St Ed's/Indians), Stetson Allie(Eds/Pirates), Derek Dietrich (Ignatius/GATECH/Rays/Marlins), Tyler Bortnick(Mentor/CCU/Rays/D'backs).Lets give those guys some Ohio support and acknowledgment.

Congrats to the bballers, but u are ignorant by telling Tess to get a real job. Tess works hard and wants to continue her softball career. You have no clue the residuals you receive from playing in the npf. It isn't about the pay you get, it's about establishing your name for coaching, clinics, private lessons and private appearances.

Maybe ur thought process is baseball, but not everyone on the softball zone website is focused on baseball. I wish all local talent, male of female, the best. But to make a smug comment for her to get a "real job" is, lets say, just a plain stupid comment. You should check out what some of the girls in the NPF get for playing in Japan. That's why the NPF World Series last year was cancelled after a rain delay. They were all heading to Japan for appearances that pay BIG $$

get real dude and quit being a hater...

I was stating that someone of that age can not live off a salary of 5-6k a year... I am no hater either she has talent but when a league is down to 4 teams that is showing the attendance/economic revenue isn't there... Many of the players do have other part time jobs along with playing in the NPF.

I'll state it, no one can live on 6k a year. which is why softball in the NPF is like baseball in the 40's, works a day job and play the game you love for food money and great times, as well as making contacts to better your future. Really do wish more teams would pop up, or maybe get witht the New England states to start playing some games against the 23U teams!!!

Need NPF to go to 65' bases, 9 innings, true pitching rotation, and 200' fences for more HR's to entertain the fans. Need the games to last longer and slow down the lefty slappers with the 10' singles. Game is great as it is, but need to give a fan a reason to drive more than an hour to watch a run rule and game over in 60 minutes.

I believe they drafted a girl from Oklahoma too Brianna Turrig ,she was from Calif. outfeilder ,Racers only showing one outfielder on there roster,We all know that very little money is made playing Npf,but let the girls take as far as they want,Playing for a npf team is a shorter route to the top than baseball(players can play there whole lives in the minors and never make the majors). Go Racers!

Most of these players realize the financial aspects of playing in the NPF. But that does not diminish the accomplishment of years of hard work and getting drafted professionally. I say good luck to all of them. They are 22 years old, so what if they want to give this a shot for awhile. There is plenty of time for them to get a "real job" in a couple of years.
I knew that I should have retrieved that home run ball Tess hit off my daughter a few years ago in high school and got her to autograph it.
Congrats to Tess, I consider her the best player I have ever personally seen play in ohio high school ball.

I am sure the baseball players all received their due and praise when they were drafted. This was BREAKING NEWS. It has been stated that there are only 4 teams which to me, makes this a great accomplishment as compared to a 30 team draft in baseball.

Softball players can honestly say they play for the love of the game.

I saw Tess play once in compuware, 3AB-2 bombs and a walk of course she pitched a shutout. Congrats weather she decides to play or entering business part of her life.

My issue with your post was to get a "real job". Thats just nasty and mean. I dont know if you would tell you buds in minor league baseball the same.

Now onto the NPF. RD - I really dont see this league going away. With some mighty powerful folks doing the grunt work right now to build the brand. ESPN is slowly jumping on board with televising collegiate games. PGF is making great strides into television and e-media. But NPF is certainly bleeding $$.

I dont know if in 5 years it will be in the same form, but some sort of womens softball will be seen on the sports channels. Watching baseball on TV is like watching paint dry and there viewership is declining rapidly. Softball is fast paced and takes up less time than is needed to telecast a baseball game. With viewership of women on sports channels increasing, they will have a niche to fill and softball might be it. How long did it take for ESPN to televise womens college basketball? And now the women pro basketball is finally making inroads, so the tides are turning.

Herb

BTW - Good luck Tess

This is fantastic news and she deserves nothing but congrats. The fact alone that she comes from Ohio shows you what players like Tess Sito, Jherica Williams and Kara Dill have done to advance the sport in this state. I would say between sponsorships, her private instruction and what she makes from the Racers she will survive very nicely. And we will have the benefit of having such a quality player and young woman from this state to play ball in this state and to teach the next generation of players. It dosent get much better than that, Great job.

You can add J.B. Shuck (Galion/tOSU/Astros/Angels) to your list. Angels signed him to a minor league contract last November and he made the big club coming out of spring training.
