This happened in a men's fastpitch game I was watching.
Some guy parked his brand new Lexus- still had the stickers on the windows- right behind the home plate backstop. Dumb move...
A foul ball goes straight up and back and lands square in the middle of the windshield, shattering it. It sat that way for a couple of innings, until the owner happened back to his car. The guy starts to flip out! Wearing a full suit and tie, he storms onto the field demanding to know which player had hit his car!
Nobody would answer. I guess no one wanted to "rat out" their buddy. The suit guy gets steamed and leaves...only to come back a few minutes later with a Columbus police officer tagging along.
The officer walks right out in the field and now HE is demanding to know who had hit the ball! At first, nobody would pipe up. So the officer says that he is going to start arresting people for "obstruction of justice" if somebody doesn't confess!
Finally, the guy that hit the ball stepped forward, and the car's owner, the cop and the player went to straighten it out.
(Never did find out what happened after that. You would think that parking right behind a backstop puts the liability on the car's owner. His own insurance company should have handled it and the player not been at fault. But we'll let JoeA straighten that one out.)
