What area of the state did this take place? There is a lot of good umpires, but a few like that sure make it hard on the good ones.

I agree with Fred. The opposing coach's AD should also be informed of the coach's actions. He obviously didn't know the rules either. Plus if he is more concerned with getting in a pitcher's head and winning a game than safety, he shouldn't be coaching anyway.

Found out today that one of the umps himself questioned it first.
Last night one of the umps even told me that after he felt it that he deemed it unsafe and that it is "HIS" call. ::)

This post could tie in with a previous post:" Ruined by Travel Ball." There are too many umpires out there that do not know the rules or seem to make them up and they call it there judgment. By no means do I want to bash the blue, there are more good ones out there than bad that do an incredible job of keeping up with new rules and new approved eqpt. But coaches and Ad's need to work together at weeding out these bad few. Good luck to all and I pray that all of our DD's stay safe.

I got a better one than that. A high school coach told a player who wears the mask she is going to ween her off of the mask because high school pitchers DON'T wear them because they are a distraction. Needless to say, my daughter is still wearing hers. The coaches tone has change since she heard that they were thinking of making them manditory for pitchers in high school in a year or so. Has anyone else heard of this possible ruling from OHSAA?
