I'm think about getting her a new glove for her birthday in April. She has had the same 13'' Mizuno glove since 12u and she's telling me it's starting to "feel thin". Just looking for some recommendations and what web sites have good deals.

And while we're on the subject is there difference between a pitchers glove and a first basemen's glove?

Thanks

I would recommend that you check out JB Custom Gloves. Lots of options and very high quality. Their reps are happy to work with you to get the exact glove that your daughter needs.

Check out Akadema. Regarding the difference between a pitching glove and a first-base glove, my daughters preferred a regular fielding glove over a specific first-base glove. They liked to be able to get the full width of the fingers into the dirt to get low throws. The first-base gloves don't have the same flat width.

The dd loves her Nokona for pitching and has a Miken for 1B. the Miken was an excellent glove, she loves it, but they are no longer produced.
Would say to stay away from Mizuno for 1B mitt, had terrible luck with their product. Extremely inferior IMO

My daughter has an A2000 for her first base mitt and wont use anything else. Her fielding glove is a Mizuno something.. not sure the model so I'm not much help on that. Glove/mitt selection is similar to bat selection. Your DD needs to try them and see what SHE likes best. I will say that the more money we've spent on gloves/mitts the better product we got.

You go to the sporting goods store, you look around, you find the gloves, you say "pick one."

No, really.

The one she likes the most is the best one.

First baseman's mitts have never really become a "thing" in fastpitch. Most girls use their fielding glove at the position. !3-inch would be very acceptable at 1st base and if she used to its size I recommend she stay with it. Some of the gloves such as the Jennie Finch series have extra padding in the palm area. The only thing about them is they come mostly broken in and the overall texture of the leather seems softer. I'm not sure under hard use how long they'll hold up. Many companies have good gloves at reasonable prices so find comfort in knowing if you shop you'll get a glove you can afford.

You may want to consider an inner glove with padding to wear inside her glove. They work very well if you get one to fit. Might be a great alternative if she is reluctant to change from her existing 13 inch glove. Girls don't like change and as long as her old glove still has its shape why not keep going with it.
