Pitching and Pitchers Discussion Good story to share.

Had my first incident with a student this past week. Was teaching this young lady how to throw the curve ball. It was her first time attempting this pitch ever and I was describing the motion her body and arm needed to make to make the pitch curve.

Well she tried to do what I told her and ended up holding the ball a bit too long during release. At the same time she was snapping her hip hard and the ball ended up going through my kitchen window. :) I had to laugh. I have been doing pitching with my daughter behind my place for 8 years and have given numerous lessons. I fully expected my DD to be the one who took out the kitchen window. She never did.

Anyway the dad had a look like "I dont belive she just did that" and then he asked me if she did. I of course just grinned and said "Yep" she did it. So we cleaned up the mess and the first thing I did was tell her. OK lets try this again. She did manage to throw one in about 20 tries. Normal for this pitch.

A few days later I get this from the mom.

Okay,
I am thinking this would make an awesome MasterCard commercial:

Select softball team: $500
Pitching lessons: $20 a week
Throwing ball through pitching coaches window: $200
Throwing a killer curveball: Priceless!

Some things are priceless. This was one of those moments I will always remember and cherish as a instructor. This is why I enjoy teaching.

very funny story. my DD used to throw into our old metal lean-to in the back of our property and I put hay bails up to stop the balls from hitting. If she threw a bad pitch we could here it hit the building. We live down the street from our varsity coach and he came over one day and said " It sounds like she's getting better, less bangs!" .

Sounds very familiar. Our garage door looks like it has been in a very bad hail storm.

my husband didn't want to chase balls pitched over his head, so he would hunker down by the garage.....i have 2 outdoor lights that are smashed flat against the siding because he couldn't get up off the bucket fast enough.
my kids catch the bus at 6:05 a.m and can't see to get up the drive...husband wants to wait till they are grown and gone before replacing them...grrrrr...
i bought him two new lights for christmas...their still in the box.
pray for me.

My daughter was warming up before a game and one of the coaches was catching for her and was standing next to the back of the dugout and when she threw a riseball the coach didn't get the glove up fast enough and it tipped the glove and the ball stuck to a nail on the overhang......

She kept the ball and you can see the hole where the nail went in........ ;D ;D

:-/1 side yard + 5 house windows on either side + 1 back alley where the neighbor has his truck parked + the house behind the truck + son & daughter throwing = so far, so good :-/

Hey there is a game to play today and practice tomorrow followed by individual instruction on Friday. I might get to the lights in a couple of weeks hon. Right after I find the lawn mower somewhere in the yard. ::)
