Had my first incident with a student this past week. Was teaching this young lady how to throw the curve ball. It was her first time attempting this pitch ever and I was describing the motion her body and arm needed to make to make the pitch curve.
Well she tried to do what I told her and ended up holding the ball a bit too long during release. At the same time she was snapping her hip hard and the ball ended up going through my kitchen window. I had to laugh. I have been doing pitching with my daughter behind my place for 8 years and have given numerous lessons. I fully expected my DD to be the one who took out the kitchen window. She never did.
Anyway the dad had a look like "I dont belive she just did that" and then he asked me if she did. I of course just grinned and said "Yep" she did it. So we cleaned up the mess and the first thing I did was tell her. OK lets try this again. She did manage to throw one in about 20 tries. Normal for this pitch.
A few days later I get this from the mom.
Okay,
I am thinking this would make an awesome MasterCard commercial:
Select softball team: $500
Pitching lessons: $20 a week
Throwing ball through pitching coaches window: $200
Throwing a killer curveball: Priceless!
Some things are priceless. This was one of those moments I will always remember and cherish as a instructor. This is why I enjoy teaching.
