Can someone help me understand the new occurance of the words; Elite, Exposure, Showcase when referring to a team looking for players?

PersonallyI think it is nothing more than salesmanship that plays on the parents ego. I mean, C'mon a 10u Elite team. Let's all get a grip people, the Lasers are not out there promoting themselves as Elite or Exposure teams, we all just know they are.

Whatever happened to the honesty of saying "we will play a competitive schedule"? Has the market become so saturated with orgs/teams that people have stooped to such depths, putting artificial labels on teams to make them seem like something special?

Please help me understand, someone, anyone...

I think you already understand. You are just looking for confirmation.

The difference is pants. They wear pants instead of shorts.:lmao::lmao::lmao:

The truly Elite teams don't need to advertise as such. I agree that it's a sales pitch. Those of us that have been around a few years know better than to fall for such tactics.

Being the coach of our elite, showcase, exposure team, I don't know what you're saying.

Bill, I agree that those who are involved in the fastpitch community know the true story. I think it is all designed to pull a fast one on the newcomers or those parents with rose colored glasses.. JMHO

Now correct me if I am wrong, but "Gold" truly has a tie to it as they mostly can or do only play "Gold" events?other than that it's all rubbish... The true elites stand out on their own without a prefix...

There is nothing to stop a team from calling itself "Gold" when they're not.
- SoCal teams have to classify as Gold during winter tournaments and some that fail to classify still carry "Gold" in their name.
- Some younger teams have "Gold" to identify their team within the org. (e.g. Lasers Gold) or because the org. is named for their gold team.

This "hustle" that is going on is not surprising when you have very average orgs and teams coming on this site and talking about the name of the club as a "BRAND" and establishing a brand recognition like they were marketing a cheap toothpaste.

I have been around this game many years, and this is NOT progress!

Have been on the other side of this problem. We were quite naive about travel ball. DD was recruited a few years ago from rec to play for brand new travel team. My whole family was honored that our dd was asked to play at such a high level.

Turned out that the coach had the thickest lensed "daddy goggles" that exist. In fact, he still does. I think that the goggles also had heavy tinting and scratch resistence (aka, reality resistence) coating.

I always wondered about all of those giggles from the other teams after we played them.

The biggest problem is that a large percentage of parents believe their DDs are going to get a Full-Ride scholarship. Almost every parent I talk to for more than 5 minutes starts talking scholarships. This summer I watched a couple of DDs commit 5,6,7 grievous errors a game and still the scholarship talk. If you are not an "ELITE" team the parents are going elsewhere.
