The OHSAA softball rules on their website are STILL unavailable for some reason. I need to know where it states that indoor softball is not recognized as a sport per High School rules, and where it states that open gyms are ok to attend as long as they are not mandatory. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Valley Storm-

The wording is in 2006 Rules in section 4.7. Hope this is what you were looking for.

The problem on the OHSAA site is that the OHSAA hasn't taken the 30 seconds it would take to update its link. Go ahead and click on the link within Softball that says OHSAA Softball Sport Regulations. It will say this page cannot be found, but just change the 05-06 to 06-07 in the address and it will come up.

To get to the General Regulations that cover Open Gyms, click on Member Schools on the home page, then click on Administrator's Corner, then go down the left side of the page to the drop-down menu that says OHSAA Sports Regulations and click it and choose General. Why the OHSAA makes the General Sports Regulations so hard to find is anyone's guess. Many coaches don't even know these exist.

The link: http://www.ohsaa.org/sports/rglts/SB06-07.pdf

The text:
4.7) Participation in indoor fast pitch softball is not a violation of OHSAA non-interscholastic
team Bylaw 10-3-3 for student-athletes.

The other sad part is that the reference to the bylaws is wrong too (should be 10-3-4):
10-3-3 A member of an interscholastic squad sponsored by the Board of Education or other governing board who is dropped or quits during the school?s interscholastic season may participate on a non-interscholastic team squad or, as an individual, in the same sport but is ineligible for further interscholastic competition in that sport for the remainder of the school?s interscholastic season.
10-3-4 A member of an interscholastic squad in a team sport sponsored by the Board of Education or other governing board may participate in non-interscholastic contests, tryouts, training or practices prior to, and after, the school?s interscholastic season under the following conditions:
a) The number of interscholastic squad members from the same school on the non-interscholastic squad is limited to a maximum of 50% of the members of a team as defined in the playing rules of the sport. From June 1 through July 31 this restriction is not in effect. The 50% limitation is defined as follows for all OHSAA recognized team sports. 50% Limitation on Sport number of squad members
Baseball 4
Basketball 2
Field Hockey 5
Football 5
Ice Hockey 3
Soccer 5
Softball 4
Volleyball 3
