I need a little help finding a 23U tournament in early August. Anyone know of any in Ohio, Ind. PA or Ky?

That might be a little tricky as most 23U will be packing up to head back to college starting next week, so very few tournaments.... I'll poke around to see what I can find.

How many 23u teams would you guess played in tournemies this year? Asking this because we actually have a 23u team for next summer and want to figure how many tournies they will do and where..Hoping to see more organizations add 23u and let the girls keep on playing! Thansk

I saw about 30 different teams this season, and we only played three tournaments. I've been told by the girls that we need one more for next year, and I believe that they're right. Looking around we could have played 8 or more tournaments if we'd wanted to. Few things to keep in mind at 23U:

  1. Most D-I and D-II colleges will play around 50-60 regular season games from February to May.
  2. The lucky ones will play into late May with NCAA Regionals and Super Regionals - the really good ones are still playing the first weeks of June.
  3. The college commitment is very wearing and most girls need 3-4 weeks off to recover mentally if not physically.
  4. 19-23 year olds have other commitments - jobs, etc.
  5. The girls that are playing are doing it for primarily for themselves - not to impress a coach or get a scholarship (they've already finished that drill). They're here to either have fun or to knock off the rust - the lucky ones get to do both.
  6. Those on semesters report back mid-late August, and need some down time before heading back.
Given all of those constraints, I'd say 5 tournaments is probably the most that the majority of the girls would be interested in committing to.

Thanks Bear I will pass it along.

Coachmom - Bear is right on target.
Ours played 2 this summer and looking for 1 more.
Another problem that comes into play is tournaments will post that they have a 23U division and then cancel for lack of teams.
I think that might change next summer however with the ASA considering the rule change on not allowing college players to play 18U A or 18U gold.

Couple I'll recommend for next year (in order of schedule date):

Beavercreek 18O Invitational - Bob Darden has a history of treating teams well, had 14 teams show up. Top half of the teams coming out of pool play go to the Gold Division, bottom half to Silver.

Candlelite Knolls 23U invitational - Greg Bensing has a nice facility and went out of his way to make the experience fun for everyone. This was a full seven inning tournament scheduled for 1:45-2 hours per game; our Saturday game with the Pittsburgh Pride went to somewhere around 3 hours before we got 7 innings in.
