High school brings football championships back to central Ohio

Most colleges?? I guess that's why their Home school up there built their own field at Akron because it was so wonderful.....lol....... It just happens we live in Central Ohio and that has nothing to do with it....it should be center of the state is all I'm saying. That eventually would lead to someone being local.....that's not my reason for the post.......my reason is the place is a historic relic, is that more palatable???

I am lost on this. Firestone was a spectacular place for us to watch the state games. It was packed! Most fans protected from rain and sun. Everyone could see perfectly. The real brick and mortar.. Just awesome. Old doesn't mean dump. It's a trip either way. I would rather drive to Firestone.

My girls LOVE playing at Firestone Stadium. I think it would be a shame to change it just to make it a closer drive for some. I'm sure most of the players don't want it changed, just the parents who don't feel like driving that far.

If that field was on campus, U of Akron doesn't build, c'mon lol...
Then they hosted the MAC championships at Firestone vs keeping on campus...?
It's a pretty decent option, not the 'TAJ MAHAL', but not a dump either.

Just from a seating aspect, I would pick Firestone. It has 2500 seats plus the capability of outfield seating. At Buckeye Field, it is 1500 seats and no capability for any additional seating.

The HS Championships definitely fill up Firestone. If Buckeye Field is used, then not everybody would be able to get in to see the game (JMO).

Could there be improvements to Firestone? Sure. Install a better outfield fence without taking away from the ability to watch from the outfield (that's just my suggestion).

If we want the HS Championship here in Central Ohio, then there has to be a facility capable of seating at least 2500 people. There is none at this time.

"If you build it, they will come."

Maybe when I hit the lottery.:yahoo: I've always thought of building a ball diamond, just for softball. Now I've just got to find a corn field.:)

For what it's worth, if I heard correctly, on a local sports update on the radio this morning they said OHSAA softball chamionships will be at Firestone thru 2021.

I don't like how teams from that region play at Firestone almost all the way through. It should be at TOSU, but only the final 4 in that stadium.

Div. II is the only div that plays there. The Akron district plays their district semi's at Firestone and the Akron regional's are at Firestone (Div II only).

Yep, my point was nobody should be playing there until today.

I asked my girls who had played there over the years if they thought of the "Stars" that played on that field before them..... Their reply was "Really dad, Um No" we could care less who played there.....

Then my guess is they could careless where they play. It is the parents that are making this an issue not the girls.
