I don't know. What you say makes sense. BUT, when my oldest dd was told she's playing at Firestone with other NE Ohio seniors, her eyes lit up. I mean come on, playing in a venue where Ivy Renfroe, Crystl Bustos, Jenny Finch, Cat Osterman, etc has played gives it that appeal. I just asked my youngest dd where she would want to play the state championship if it was either at OSU softball stadium or Firestone, her reply---what's so great about OSU's stadium, I'd rather play at Firestone.

Firestone is a dump short and sweet.....center of the state makes most sense for all players as well.....at a state of the art facility in the states biggest university stage.....

Stark County was also saying no facility could match the Canton Pro Football HOF experience even as numbers in attendance kept falling. Not to say softball will have anything like football numbers wise for attendance it just makes sense to have the games in amore central location.

Be careful what you wish for. A move to OSU brings major price increases for tickets/concessions. Football now $15 per game. Unreal

I'd love for the games to be somewhere in Central Ohio . Simply not fair for It to be a 20 min drive for some and a 4 plus hour drive with hotel stays for others . Not fair to fans family , grandparents . Put it in the middle where its 1- 2 hours for most everyone .

I've been wondering this for a long time with all high school team sports. Why not determine the site based upon the location of the participants? A central location would be ideal for a game between a team from Toledo and a team from Cincinatti, but what if the teams are both from the northeast corner of the state? Would you want to drive 2 hours to play a game against a team when you could throw a rock from the parking lot of your school and break the window of a car parked at their school? Find a suitable field that makes sense and schedule a game. Seems faily easy and logical.

All the championships should be in the state capital. I played in Ohio Stadium my senior year before it moved, and it was certainly memorable. With all the talk of competitive balance, it seems fair to have the location centralized.

While there is no where near the amount of planning needed for softball/baseball and some of the other less followed sports as football it would be very hard to find a venue in late May for a came in early June especially; one that could handle more than one game, accomodate umpires, OHSSA officials, press etc...

I didn't disagree but I did some research over this. I looked at PA's version of OHSAA and the football championships are held in Harrisburg but the softball championships held at PSU, not fair to those who live in Philly area. I'm sure they would like it more centrally located. MD has their state softball playoffs at the U of MD (I had my cuz confirm). I'm sure people in Cumberland would like to see it more towards Frederick. I believe in GA, both football and softball are in Atlanta, and I'm sure people in Savannah would love to see it moved to Macon. The fact is, nothing is centrally located. And if the softball state championship needs to be centrally located, it should be then Centerburg (or ville) the geographically central location in Ohio and that's closer to MT. Vernon than C-bus (OK, couldn't resist on some sarcasm).

In any event, I asked my youngest DD too (my above post says younger and should have been older), she's rather play at Firestone and she's been to both stadium's. Once again, it's because who's played there is why.

You may not need it for more than one game. Maybe the D1 final would be better off being played in Columbus, D2 in Cincinnatti, D3 in Cleveland, D4 in Toledo. There's a chance that you would need it for more than 1 game, and if you do then you do. It's a softball game. I watch multiple games played on the same field most weekends.

It could work for football too. They seem to find suitable venues for playoff games as soon as the participants are determined in weeks 12-14, I'm not so sure why they couldn't do it one more time.

Sure it makes sense to someone from Hilliard. It would make sense to be in Cincinnati for someone from the Cincinnati area. No matter were it is someone going to have an Advantage in less travel. Firestone is not a dump it is not OSU but it is still a nice stadium. tOSU seats about 1000 less people then Firestone, 1500 compared to 2500. Anything at tOSU is going to have a price major increase on everything. The real advantage tOSU has is less travel for some parents, and let not forget the new stadium but less seating. Where would daughters rather play OSU name the greats or Firestone where Jenny Finch, Cat Osterman, Monica Abbott, Ciatlin Lowe, Natasha Watley, Jessica Mendoza, Crystl Bustos etc played.

It's got nothing to do with the "Greats of the game" heck, they knocked down Yankee stadium, as that was a dump too! Ours played there three times over the years, fake fences, large infield, catacomb like feel, splinters in yr rear, yep an amazing customer experience I'll always cherish........

and I didn't even bring up as others stated home field advantage........ That in itself is a whole different topic

As long as fans aren't getting shutout due to available seats doesn't matter IMO.

Both venues have their appeal...Firestone has a little more room and the "history"...
tOSU is newer and is centrally located.

Location, if your kid/team is playing for state, travel shouldn't be too much a deal breaker. (and Columbus is much closer for me)

Personally, I'm OK w Firestone even though its a farther trip. Yes, tOSU is newer/nicer but calling Firestone a dump is wrong IMO. Alot of states/colleges would take that 'dump'.
That, and frankly the city of Akron could use a few extra 'visitor/tourist $$$' that Columbus isnt hurting for.

As a football player in High School playing at The Ohio State University, I can tell you that it never even crossed my mind as to who else had played on that field. We were playing at Ohio Stadium for the State Title. That is what mattered. Archie Griffin didnt cross my mind, and I dont think many people that reach that final game are that concerned with who else has played on that field before them. After all, you can play in other tourneys at Firestone, correct me if I am wrong. How many get the chance during the season to play at The Ohio State varsity field.

If that is how you feel it doesn't matter were we play the game, it could be on a field that has no dugout, no stands just a bench to sit on. Because it is for the State title and that all that matters. And yes, tOSU has other tournaments.

Hilliarddad most colleges would love to have that so called dump as their home field. Besides you just want to give the "home field advantage" to the Columbus teams like Hilliard.
