High School freshman playing 14U

Another reason some stay at 14 instead of moving to 18: Maturity!

Forget all the skills and such, some parents (and 14U players, of course) simply understand that there is a huge difference between a 14yo and a 17yo when it comes to matters that deal with the "birds and the bees" and other worldly matters. If youve ever sat in an 18U dugout (or HS one) than you know what I mean! Ive heard plenty that could make you blush.

Some parents may be trying to limit their dd's exposure to the older girls. Its not always about being a "Big fish in a small pond" or other such criticism.

Why cant we let a child play were their comfortable instead of trying to ridicule them? What is wrong with a kid (I dont care how good they are) playing with people their own age!! Why is it so necessary to have 14yo's hanging around 17&18yo's?

Lemme guess.....cuz they wont get that "college scholarship"........Heres a news flash:

Academics will get you a scholarship much easier than softball!!

If you are a standout freshman at a smaller public school like ours, you probably should play 14U travel. If it's a great H.S. program at the Div. I level, you would probably benefit from playing 16U or 18U travel. There is a big difference between most high school teams and travel teams. H.S. teams we see are usually not loaded 1-9.
